Title: Media Center 11.0.29 Alpha Available
Post by: Matt on July 16, 2004, 03:47:56 pm
We're just starting work on Media Center 11.  From time to time, we'll share our progress.

Think of these early builds like the hole in the ground before you start building a house.  Much like the hole, it's hard to get excited about these builds, and if you're not careful with them, you'll get hurt.

When upgrading from MC 10, you will lose your settings.  Some plugins will not work yet.

Please uninstall builds prior to MC 11.0.12 before installing. (no need to uninstall 11.0.12)  As always, backup your library.

ftp://ftp.jriver.com/pub/downloads/music/MediaCenter110029.exe

11.0.29 (7/16/04)

1. NEW: Added "Preview Mode" to play only the intro to songs. (Player Menu > Player Options / right-click on DSP Studio button)
2. NEW: Revamped Options > Playback screen.

11.0.28 (7/15/04)

1. Fixed: Setup completion utility could crash when finalizing setup after a restart.

11.0.27 (7/15/04)

1. Fixed: On fresh install, toggling scrollbars for Track Info page could cause the page to be replaced by an error page.
2. Changed: Handheld plugins installed for Media Center 9.1 / 10 will also show up in Media Center 11.
3. Fixed: Sort items removed from Customize Current View dialog could reappear after an "Apply" in some cases.
4. Fixed: Cover Art for individual files could not be retrieved by Theater View, Album View, or other programs using the SDK.
5. NEW: Added basic image editing.  Select an image and pick Tools > Image > Edit Image... from the menu. (still a work in progress)

Not using 11 yet, but on 10 there needs to an option to (auto) turn off x-fading on audio CD's. Since it probably won't be implemented in 10, how 'bout 11?

Maybe start a thread, because I'm not sure why a guy would want this.  For now, could the "Alternate Playback Settings" (Alt+1) mode do the trick?

I'm not sure if this has been mentioned already, but Media Center is missing from the right-click menu in Windows Explorer.  I can no longer select files and import them this way.

Question :

Why MC11 do not use the file "playlistx.jmd" of MC10 ?

(When I copy this file into Windows\Application Data\J River\Media Center 11\Library, MC11 gives all names of playlists, but this playlists are ... blank !)

Thanks

You can't safely pick and choose library files to move around, because the different pieces work together.  Use the Library Backup / Library Restore feature for tasks like this.

I don't know if now is the right time to ask for appareance feature...

But I wuold really appreciate new icons for "Album thumbails view" and "Detailed view" toolbars buttons. Right now, all list style views share the same icon... what seem very unusable to me...

Are there any changes in overall graphical appearance of MC 11? is it different from MC 10? I am paranoid to install alpha and beta versions. If somebody has a screenshot (if different from MC 10) please post it here.

Thanks.

cheers,
drb

Matt > For now, could the "Alternate Playback Settings" (Alt+1) mode do the trick?

Yessir...forgot about that. I can't see why anyone would want x-fade on audio CD's. Two cases where x-fading is objectional: MC Audio burn with DSP (ie gapless); factory CD's where track blending occurs natively. May not be worth another thread...no one else has chimed in on this.

This needs to be back up to the top......and why isn't this stickied like the rest?

Anyway, same name in comments, different case, is confusing tag info and panes.

Oh and check this out..

Vis Studio -> Flush -> Color

Added EDEAE4, save, and it translates it to E4EAED ....pretty cool, eh? I have to edit it in notepad to keep it right.

using [Dimensions] (Calculated Field) in a thumbnail view shows "CIRCULAR: Dimensions" instead. I think this was shown somewhere else but can't remember why.

Just a heads up that latest version of G-Force now works with MC 11.

It's available under Display Plugins here:

adding a file to a access control'd rule after a file has been added to 'playing now', will still show the file even though it can't be played (after refresh).

bug...

when editing images i can usually select a bunch of files and resize them (this works with jpg, jpeg that ive tried).

With bmp the resize option isnt there. i need to resize a jpeg first then can resize a bunch of bmp's by calling up the last function i used.

Small question:

The X-10 MP3 plug-in does not show in the Plug-In Manager when I try to install it. Is it supposed to work at this point or is it still a bit early for that one?

I miss using MC with the outdoor speakers and the the RF remote while sunning in the back yard... We all know that most IR remotes don't work too well in the sun LOL!

Thanks!

Michel.

Doing anything disk related takes forever on large libraries. just to do a simple 'rename from properties' takes a lot longer than normal. the actual renaming process is fast though.

I think it may have to do with extra library fields and the time it takes to update per file.

When using the Windows Media engine for playing back videos, I get strange (but consistent) results on both my computers.  Typically audio plays but the video is blank, or if the video does play, it won't go full-screen properly.  Also right-clicking over the video won't bring up the context menu.  All works fine using the DirectX engine, but then DRM and multichannel WMA aren't there.

If I go into WMP9 and _disable video mixing renderer_ then it works, but with 100% CPU on even the simplest video.

Thanks,

-Doug

After importing my files from scratch I found all the previous unassigned 'Date (year)' fields having the year '2004' in it.

Made it a little bit difficult to find the real '2004' tracks.

Found a solution erasing all the fields 'Date' with date AND time in it.

Simple feature request.

1) Playing now crop file (where you right click a file, and have only that one left after croping)

I've been getting a MS Visual C++ Runtime error when i play a file, a few seconds after song starts it pops up, and lasts until the song stops.

Yeah, I found that very annoying too :)

So this is what was going on?!?  There was another post about dates changing to 2004, and I have seen this, but couldn't come up with a repeatable cause.  For a while there, I thought I was losing my mind! :)

This is definitely a bug.
