Title: My New Kitchen Buddy
Post by: JimH on November 09, 2002, 02:44:10 pm
OK, I have a problem.  I admit it.  Every weekend, I visit Best Buy, CompUSA, or MicroCenter.   I troll the Sony website.

Today, I visited MicroCenter.  I went hand to hand with a new PC from Sony.  It won.  It's my new pal in the kitchen.

Imagine a cross between a really nice notebook PC, a great boombox, and a modest kitchen clock radio.  Can't do it?  Here's a link:

It's expensive now, but the price will keep dropping and the machine will keep getting better.  It's the kind of thing that will seem "normal" some day (whatever "normal" is).

It's cool.

So what are you going to do with it in the kitchen?

Install MealMaster Or such to cook with? or something to do when your drinking your morning coffee?

Are these all the same machine? Is the first picture a docking thingy or is it just invisible in the other two?

And when you said expensive, I was expecting two or three thousand. $1600 isn't extremely expensive. A good notebook is almost as much. It's too expensive for me. So is The Beatles - White Album CD.

Sorry, but that's none of your business.  We like our privacy.

Those pictures are the same machine.  The first one is just an enlarged and distorted end-view.  You can see a similar view in the third picture in my series.

One nice thing is that there are plenty of I/O ports.  Two each of Firewire, USB, and PCMCIA.  And it has a DVD/CD writer combo drive.

I think Gateway \ Dell has something like it.

You might want to pick up an optical mouse it might work better in the kitchen due to the coffee cake and roller problem.
