Title: Microsoft Keyboard media keys
Post by: sab003 on July 29, 2004, 08:35:01 am
Hello all,

I have a MS Keyboard with the media keys on top to play, pause, fast forward, etc.

Is there any way to get these keys to work with media center?

Thanks in advance!

You can set all the relevant keys to control MC directly via mjextman commands but this means that they will only control MC - not any other media players.  Using 'start a program, web page or file' in the key settings apply the following:

Media Key: mjextman.exe /Power
Play/Pause: mjextman.exe /MCC 10000,0
Stop: mjextman.exe /MCC 10002,0
Prev Track: mjextman.exe /MCC 10004,0
Next Track: mjextman.exe /MCC 10003,0

MC 11 implements a different catching system for these keys.

It may work better in your case.

Thanks for the feedback.

Where can I find mjextman.exe?

You don't need to 'find it'.  Just go to Control Panel> Keyboard and do what I said.

So with recent changes in MC 11 these commands no longer work.  I was able to make it work after the first change but not after the most recent

what would replace mjextman.exe?

I tried:

Media Center 11 Launcher.exe /MCC 10000,0

Does not work.

Please help

Thanks

For what it's worth, I've got an older MS "Natural Keyboard Pro" with multimedia keys across the top. I've never installed any of the MS keyboard software, so I have virtually nothing in Control Panel / Keyboard.

The multimedia keys have worked consistently with MC and continue to work with the latest build of MC 11.

If you're feeling bold and you don't have any other keyboard customizations to lose, you might try removing any software installed to support the keyboard, and see what the system does without it. Your mileage may vary, but in general I've found that specialized keyboard and mouse software interferes more than it helps. Good luck!

I geuss to furhter clarify I am using these for my mouse.  It worked before, why not now?  What changed?

I have tried several different commands and nothing works.  I would rather not uninstall the software especially since the mouse is bluetooth and probably needs it anyways.
