Title: MP3 Encoder install problems...
Post by: glennn on November 09, 2002, 09:51:00 am
i installed MJ9 beta and then uninstalled it to return to 8 - am trying to Rip and have to, of course, redownload the encoders, only now it says "installed correctly" but when i try to choose the MP3 encoder to rip, it continues to tell me that i need to download and install the encoders. 'sup with that?

and could some kind person tell me whether there is a benefit to VBR over say a 192 BR? what's the idea behind VBR?

thanks ever so much,
glennn

Yeah...see related posts

With v9 being beta, I'm betting that it left garbage in the registry that is fouling up v8. If you go to the v9 forum I think there's some posts there regarding v8 to v9 and vice versa.

VBR (variable) is superior to CBR (constant) & ABR (average) in terms of sound quality and filesize when bitrates (averaged) are more or less the same. The lone exception is 320 CBR which is the best quality possible with the mp3 format.

Ogg is VBR by default (MPC too, I believe)

Please try downloading the MP3 plug-in again.  We broke the installation yesterday afternoon.  It should be fixed now.  Sorry for the problem.
