During install, the installer hangs at the prompt to add icons to the desktop, but only after it adds an icon to the desktop. Then every time I try to run MC, it tells me to run it once with Power User or Admin rights so that it will run under guest priveleges. I am running as Administrator, so this shouldn't be an issue.
MC was installing fine until version 11.49. The only change I've made to my computer is removing a hard disk, then adding another hard disk (neither of which MC was using for anything). I made this change late last night after, I think, 11.49 was installed.

my installer hangs too, but only for about 30 secs, try waiting and see what happens. I didn't get this before 49.

Yea, I left it alone for about 15 minutes and it never completed. I installed 49 twice, 50 twice and 51 once. All 5 times I let it go from 3 minutes to 15 minutes with no luck.
-
I think it's the same problem in both cases.
For some reason running:
[MC Path]\mcmimeman.exe /Register is failing on your machine.
Could you try running it by hand with the /Register (or /Unregister) switches and see what happens?
Are you on a domain that could be limiting registry access?
Thanks!
-
Matt, I just opened a command prompt and was able to /register and /unregister mcmimeman.exe without any problems.
I am not on a domain, just simple networking.
One thing I noticed is that "Media Jukebox.exe" is running in the task manager after the installer hangs and I force it to close.
Should I uninstall and re-install?
-
After it's registered, this registry key should have the path to mcmimeman.exe in the (Default) value:
HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\CLSID\{C83171F2-7FE3-4C83-87A5-183013B089FE}\LocalServer32
Does it look like that's working?
If not, can you manually create a HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\CLSID\{C83171F2-7FE3-4C83-87A5-183013B089FE} key, or is there a permission problem?
Thanks.
-
I just checked and that key is there, with the default value pointing to "C:\Program Files\J River\Media Center 11\mcmimeman.exe". I changed it, then changed it back to check permissions and it allowed me to do it without complaint.
-
sorry, haven't had time to try what you are suggesting Matt. My installation does finish with no errors, it just takes a while.

I uninstalled and reinstalled. I am still seeing the same issues. Any other suggestions?
It's becoming so annoying, I am considering reverting to version 10.

Clear your temp files. IE / Tools/Internet options/Temporary Internet Files/Delete.
Empty your garbage.
Security settings too high?

Could you export HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\CLSID\{C83171F2-7FE3-4C83-87A5-183013B089FE} to a .reg file and email it to matt @ jriver.com?
Thanks.

Try 11.0.152 if you haven't.
It wasn't handling cases where the registry had a short pathname in it.

I don't use IE except for Windows Update, but I'll empty the temp files anyway.
My security settings haven't changed. The only thing I have done recently is install SP2 for XP, but I was running it before I ran into this issue.
Try 11.0.152 if you haven't.
That's the version I am running.
email it to matt @ jriver.com
Done.
Thanks guys.
-
I didn't get an email.
Make sure you cut out the spaces. (matt @ jriver.com)
Thanks.
-
Hmm.. I removed the spaces. Could it be a problem with a .reg file being sent? Want me to resend it zipped up?
-
It'll be fixed next build.
Thanks for all the help Paul.

Great! Thanks guys. :)
