I am using 10.161 and have trouble ripping some disc. I have ripped about 150 and 2 will not work. I get error telling me "the output directory could not be created. Please check your output directory". This only happens on these 2 disc and the disc will play fine from my cd burner. I tried these disc (best of buffalo springfield and the best of joe walsh) on another computer with mc and get the same error. any ideas? I know that I ripped the buffalo springfield cd before with an older version and did not have this problem.
Thanks,
Chad

No one has an idea why I can not rip some disc?
Thanks,

Well...the error message was "the output directory could not be created. Please check your output directory".
So, have you checked the drive where you're trying to create the directory to contain the ripped tracks? ie. the disk isn't full etc.
Also, maybe there is some quirk with the directory name - ie it may be too long. Either way, the error message sounds to me like an issue OUTSIDE MC, rather than a problem with the software itself...

Well it is not the dir. I have ripped about 120 more cd's to the same dir with MC without errors, but anytime I try those 2 cds I get that error. I tried another machine with MC and get the same error. I can load the cd and play from the cd fine with MC. Any other ideas?
Thanks Chad

If it's only those 2 CDs out of 120 then I would try a different ripping program. If they still won't rip, there's probably something wrong with the CDs (it can happen). If they do rip with another program, then just import them into MC and you could chalk it up to an unsolved mystery.
Or someone might come along have a better idea.

It sounds like there could be an illegal character in one of the names of the album or artist. We should be trapping it if that's the case.
-
Can you give the exact artist and album of the discs that won't rip?
Also, can you create those directories by hand?
What if you rip to a temp folder and move the files after the rip has finished?

My father is having problems ripping the following new CDs (different issue from the above thread):
De-Lovely (http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/tg/detail/-/B00023GGHQ/qid=1092681503/sr=8-1/ref=sr_8_1/103-7866603-7019033?v=glance&s=music&n=507846)
Best of the Gipsy Kings (http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/tg/detail/-/B000005J38/qid=1092681582/sr=8-1/ref=sr_8_xs_ap_i1_xgl15/103-7866603-7019033?v=glance&s=music&n=507846)
Bill Tapia - Tropical swing (http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/tg/detail/-/B0001MRS3Y/qid=1092681666/sr=8-1/ref=sr_8_xs_ap_i1_xgl15/103-7866603-7019033?v=glance&s=music&n=507846)
The computer is running well. It does not seem to be crashing. There are a couple of CDs that it will not copy. It seems to have imprinted on itself in some way, not to allow them to be copied. It goes through the rip procedure but as each cut finishes it says "failed" rather than "completed". Any thoughts. Also I got a message that version 10.0.149, or something close to that, is available and did I want to download. I clicked "yes". The dialogue box then disappeared. Do I need to do any more to get it installed?
I had him upgrade, but it didn't seem to help. I checked the lists of broken^h^h^h^h^h^h copy protected discs (NOT CDs), and they didn't seem to be on any of those lists. I'm going to have him try EAC to see if that works for them.
thanks,
kiwi
p.s. if it's easier, this can be moved to its own thread.

I had to reload Music Match back on my system. Now I know remember why I got rid of it in the first place. I was able to rip those 2 cd's without any errors. The cd's were:
1. Buffalo Springfield/The Best Of Buffalo Springfield-Retrospective
2. Joe Walsh/Joe Walsh's Greatest Hits-Little did he know...
I hope you can fix this so I never have to load that back on my system again:)
Thanks,
Chad

Just ran into 2 more cds that give me the same error.
Poison/Open up and say ..ahhh
Sinead O'connor/So far...the best of
Other cds continue to rip fine, and these ripped fine with Music Match. There has to be a problem somewhere with MC. All of these disc that I have had a problem with were ripped before with MC and did not have this problem except for the Joe Walsh cd. Unfortunally my raid 5 array died and I have to redue all my cds(
Thanks,
Chad

If you're getting multiple problems, it could be something like a bad disk where your temp file is stored. I think someone also suggested that it could be a write only directory. There are other possibilities.
Try ripping to wav to separate whether the problem is with the ripping or with encoding.
We're not seeing this as a widespread problem.

Well I have ripped many cd's to this same dir and still continue to do so. I have done a couple hundred cd's and all but 4 give me this error so far. I can use Musicmatch and not get any errors ripping to the same dir. I have tried to use MC and change the dir, but still get the same error. For some reason it is specific to these cds.
Thanks,
Chad

Well I think I found the problem. It seems to be a problem with your database tagging. If I rip these cds with music match, import them to mc, change the format to .ape, and then change the tags manually it will work. If I rip them with musicmatch, import them with mc, then then update the tags via YADB, then convert them to .ape I will get the error. That format must not like somthing with your data base tagging is my guess. I had the same problem with Rod Stewart Unplugged.
Thanks,
Chad

Can you give a step by step process, with some detail, that will always cause the problem? Then we can reproduce it.
Especially the part about how you are using YADB. Are you using the track lookup? CD lookup and track lookup use two different sets of data.
-
Well I think most of my settings are the default settings. Items I have changed is my share dir (which is a shared network drive), lookup coverart after rip, use .ape with high, rip without asking when a cd is inserted. The rest of the stuff I have not changed. I will get the same error anytime I put one of those disc in. This will happen on both my machines.
Thanks,
Chad
