I hope that you can help me with MC 9.1. I'm a long time MC user and
I just signed up with audible. I am using the last release of MC (9.1.316) but I can not get MC to play any audible files. It recognizes them as "files" but not as audio files, and when selected to play I get the following error: "Warning. Please select file(s) to play". I have no problem playing audible files with Real or WMP. Please let me know what I am doing wrong so I can fix this. Upgrading to MC 10 is not an option right now due to price.
Once I get this to work I figure I will have no problems syncing them with my ipod.
Thanks.

Do you have Quicktime installed?
-
Had Quicktime alternative installed. Just downloaded the "regular" quicktime from Apple. Neither MC or Quicktime player can play the AA files.
Any other suggestions?
-
The Portable Players board here has a few audible threads. You could also try a search.
You may need to try MC 10.

digitaltrapper,
MC 10 is going to be the way to go for this to work. Please download the trialware to confirm that there is something unique about your files which is failing. If the files play in MC 10, you will know that the solution will be to upgrade when you can.

I'll consider trying an upgrade but I hate to upgrade for a feature that I know is supposed to work in ver 9.1. I feel like I "paid" for that feature the first time around, and now I will be paying for it twice by upgrading. I'm sure the new features in ver. 10 are worth something, but for the most part I have been pretty satisfied with ver 9 and MC's flexibility is what is keeping me from going to itunes. I'd love to find a way for this to work without upgrading.

Just tried the newest MC 10 posted and I still can't get them to play... I am going to try to redownload these files and try again. Let me know if there are any other things I should do/test.
-
Can you play them with the audible player?
-
yes, playing them with the audible player, real, and wm all work.
-
Are you sure you have the latest version of Quicktime?
Exactly how are you trying to play them?
-
Yup. Newest version just downloaded off the apple website. I drag the files from explorer into a playlist in MC. When they are imported they are recognized but with a "file" icon and not a "music" icon. Then when I try to double click on it, or click on it and then hit play, it says "error, please select a file(s) to play."
-
Try importing the files first.
Check file associations in MC.

I fixed it. I don't know why but when I redownloaded them in a smaller bitrate, they worked. I then tried it again at a higher bitrate and it worked too. So somehow those original files were not readable by MC but were still readable by audible player, real, and wm.
Now I would like to convert back to 9.1 to see if it still works on there. (So I don't have to upgrade if I don't want to). Is this possible? Should I just uninstall everything and reinstall 9.1?
thanks for your help!
PS. I'd be interested in seeing a comparison of all available products on the main web page and what the major "new" features are. I know that you post all the new changes on the message board but I'd like to see more of a "big picture" summary. It would help in deciding to upgrade or not. So far my limited use of ver 10 does not show huge changes compared to ver 9, or not enough that effect me to want to upgrade. (Maybe I am missing some big cool feature somewhere).
