Title: Finding my Cover Art (again)...
Post by: DocLotus on August 29, 2004, 06:47:07 pm
* Every since I long ago upgraded form MJ8 to MC9,10 & now 11, finding cover art has not been very easy.

* Each time I have to completely install MC (for one reason or another) only the files that were ripped with MJ8 will automatically find the cover art.  All files ripped on MC9, 10 and 11 will not show the cover art.  I have to manually use the Image\Add from file command and manually point to each cover art JPEG for all of the albums that do not show my cover art.  I have to do this for each album... bummer.

* Why is it such as pain in the you-know-what for something that should be such a simple task?

* All my cover art JPEG's are in each folder for each album.  This used to work just fine (back in the days of MJ8).

* When I first started having this problem after MC9 changed the way cover art was handled, I was told by several people to store my cover art in each album's folder. This seemed to work ok (at first).

* I am using WMA for my ripped files.

* What am I doing wrong ?

I have never used automatic cover art functions. When I rip an album I always link cover art manually. But I have to do it only once. It takes about 3 seconds. Fixing the tags takes much more time. If the cover art image is linked from the album folder only the filename gets stored, not the path.

Do you mean that you lost your library every time you reinstalled? I have had the same library from the year 2002. I have never lost it (and cover art links).

Maybe your MJ 8 files have link information stored in the file tags. I have the option enabled in MC 10 but it doesn't seem to work. Cover art link information is stored only in the library.

Edit
When I now installed MC 11 I restored an MC 10 library backup to it.

Hi Alex;

There was something about WMA and cover art problem back when MC went from version 8 to 9.  I recall having a lot of conversations at the time about it.  Seems that MJ8 would save cover art in the tags but MC9 would not because of some change in the way MC9 handled WMA files.

At the time I had all my cover art in a single folder but was told by several people that it was better to keep each JPEG with the folder that it went with.

I just want to know what is the best and most reliable way to handle cover art so this problem will finally be put to rest once and for all.

Thanks for any suggestions that work ::)
