Title: Media Center 11.0.76 Alpha Available
Post by: Matt on September 03, 2004, 04:25:12 pm
We're still working on Media Center 11.  We appreciate your feedback on it, but MC11 may not work as expected and we can't yet fully support it.  When upgrading from MC 10, you will lose your settings.  Some plugins still do not work.

We recommend that you use MC10 below, but if you want to use MC 11 while we're building it, PRICES are here:
http://yabb.jriver.com/interact/index.php?board=3;action=display;threadid=23311 (http://yabb.jriver.com/interact/index.php?board=3;action=display;threadid=23311)

If you want a more trouble-free experience, please download Media Center 10 here:
http://www.musicex.com/mediacenter/download.html

Media Center 11 is available here:
ftp://ftp.jriver.com/pub/downloads/music/MediaCenter110076.exe  [see price link above]

11. NEW: The order of Theater View root buttons can be user configured.

Could this customization be moved to the main.xml file instead of residing in the registry?  I know it's nice for beginners to not have to edit the main.xml, but consider that it's useful to have different skins have different content.  This extends to adding the new nodes (i.e. News) as well.  It would be nice to bring back the ability to change the skin from within Theater View - then I can create different skins for different purposes.

If you don't want to give up the ability for beginners to make the easy changes, how about letting the main.xml override the registry setting?

Another reason I favor moving the settings to the main.xml is that it makes it easier to backup and restore, or move between my desktop and HTPC.

Converting WAV's to APE's still does not delete the WAV files even so the settings are accordingly.

Is this getting fixed  soon ?

MC 11 Improvements

* Split views so you can look at two (or more) views at the same time (ex. look at Media Library and Playing Now together)

I think that some button or contextual menu (in addition to the combination of keys) for the Splits views, could be created, to activate them and to deactivate them.

He would be elegant practitioner more and than the other options.

Only I think it.... ;)

Hey, great! But I found some more weird behavior:

1. Launching an external proram from Theater View works now, except that I can't get back to Theater View. I'm not even sure how you would handle this, but can you have Theater View stay open so that when the other program is exited, Theater View takes over? Or do you know a way that I could hack around it with a batch file? Right now, this doesn't work:

notepad.exe
mjextman.exe /Mode Theater

but it could, if it didn't crash, and if /Mode Theater was a supported parameter

2. Just to bring it up again, in v10, I could set the resolution of the Theater View so that it matched that of the FullScreen View. Can this functionality be restored?

3. Playing a video from Theater View brings the fullscreen view up as expected. However, stopping playback does not return me to Theater View like it did in v10.

4. How much money do I have to pay you guys to bring back my left/right navigation in Theater View?  I'm not kidding.

5. Have a great weekend!

I reported several times that MC freezes when trying to use Visualizations. This is still the case!

I have tested on my second computer and the results are the same.

1rst PC : centrino 1.7Ghz / ati 9600 / XP SP1
2nd one: PIV 2.4Ghz / GeForce2 MX / XP SP1

I already noticed that not all the the presets cause MC to feeze :

Collage    /   Clean-n-Tidy II ... OK
Collage    /   Clean-n-Tidy ... OK
Collage    /   Damaged Layers (II) ... OK
Collage    /   Damaged Layers (III) ... Text goes at 300 Km/h (no freeze)
Collage    /   Damaged Layers (IV) ... OK
Collage    /   Damaged Layers (V) ... OK
Collage    /   Damaged Layers ... OK

Oscilloscope / America ... Black Screen (no freeze)
Oscilloscope / Classic ... Black Screen (no freeze)
Oscilloscope / Firerod ... FREEZE
Oscilloscope / Lost In Space ... Black Screen (no freeze)
Oscilloscope / Magic Star ... OK
Oscilloscope / Not Again ... FREEZE
Oscilloscope / Rorschak I ... FREEZE

......
(Using MC 11.0.76)

Let me know if you want me to test exactly what works and what doesn't .

David.

Something wierd for me with this version: Every time I put an audio CD in my drive, MC crashes.

The same happens when I try to start a tune via Windows Explorer (using "Replace and Play in Media Center").

I had to do a system restore to go back to 11.0.72.

The X-10 MP3 (http://accessories.musicex.com/mediacenter/accessories.php) plug-in still does not want to install with this version.

It seems like the installation process goes normally, but when it is done, the plug-in is not present in the Plug-in Manager.

I did. The X-10 MP3 plugin is not shown there either, so I can't start it... The only remote plugin that is available is the IRMAN one which is installed automatically by MC.

Of course I did. :) That's why I'm reporting it. That was the first thing I checked becase that's what I had to check in v10.

Has any one out there managed to rip a CD with one of thelatest MC11 versions.  My system crashes with a "blue screen" on any single attempt to rip a CD.

I do externally with EAC and it works fine.

Is this a bug that can get fixed or am I doing something wrong ?

Please allow UNC paths again for the import. In v10 I could just tell it to import \\server\share$ by typing it directly into the box. Now you're forcing me to map a drive, which doesn't make my library as portable as before.

I saw someone else mention this in a previous thread.

It seems I can only start with genres for audio, and with date for images.

JimH, I don't know if you were answering my or somebody else's question, but I tried to reset views and I still don't have disk location in Theater view. In normal view - it's present and everything seems to be ok.
One comment: I connect to remote server library that is MC version 10.

Theater View views are hard coded now.  We may change that, but we're trying to simplify it.  There are a couple of threads on Theater View you could post in if you want to influence the outcome.

Feature was available in MC 10 Theater view, I don't see why it should be gone from MC 11.
I will look in theater views threads.
Just want to point out that there many nice multimidea applications for PC but none works well on TV. MC 10 was good in that - that's why I paid money for it. Don't break it now!
Thanks

Checking box "show in theater" view actually helped. Thanks a lot.
It used be default though. I think all standard view schemas should be available by default in theater view as before. Anyway, I'll discount the problem to alpha/beta version of software. MC is still great.

Post by: Jaguu on September 05, 2004, 02:41:07 am
alexgit,
I think it was a great progress to make view schemes selectable to display in theater view. There are too many views (mostly set up to editing stuff) that you do not really want to have in theater view. So this comes in very handy and was requested by many, many users over a long period of time.
The only debatable thing could be whether to turn them on  or off by default, they are set to off now, which makes theater view very simply to start with.

Hi,

I tried using the 2 zones in v11.  I have 2 cards, Terretec Aureon and Create Exitigy.

When using the Terretec Aureon (Primary sound driver), I can control the volume.  When using the Creative Extigy, the volume bar cannot slide.  In v10, I use to be able to select Internal volume or system volume by clicking the right mouse button at the volume bar.  In v11, I can't, and my problem appeared again.

Can we have this feature back so that we can use our sound cards properly again.

I still get an error when trying to start Media Center with mjextman.exe (the /start option).

That goes for me too.
Trying to play an mp3-file through:
1. double-clicking an mp3-file in Windows Explorer;
2. Selecting File, Open Media File and selecting an mp3-file, in MC;
3. Selecting Media Library and click Play-button in MC
also results in a program execution error.

Theater View views are hard coded now.  We may change that, but we're trying to simplify it.  There are a couple of threads on Theater View you could post in if you want to influence the outcome.

If I understand correctly, you're saying that I can no longer create my own View Scheme and have it show up on the main list in Theater View.  I've tried to create my own Websites View Scheme and have it show up in Theater View.  Even though I select "Show in Theater View" for the View Scheme, I cannot get it to show up in "Configure Theater View" -> "Items to Show", which seems to be the only thing that determines what shows.

You need to check "Show in Theater View" in the View Scheme properties

Or have I found a bug?  Because this option seems to have no effect on my Theater View.
Title: Re:Media Center 11.0.76 Alpha Available
Post by: Dragyn on September 05, 2004, 11:46:04 am
We really should be using a new thread for this. I know it's most likely a bug but this thread isn't really a discussion area. 10 posts here could get moved to a new thread. Where's the almighty King?

Anyway, if you have sub directories in your view schemes, those will also need to be checked for theater view. Would this be causing the problem?

Just the one View Scheme under the Media Library.  JimH's comment about the content being hardcoded made me wonder...  but if it's working for you, I must have found a bug.

In build .76 I am unable to play any and all lossless .wma files.  Works fine if I reinstall .75; fails if I go back to .76.  Media Center crashes, sometimes with a typical Windows application error message, sometimes with no error message at all.

-Doug

UPDATE:  Figured it out (to my chagrin) - I had to create a new library from scratch.  Somewhere there must have been corruption, which only started causing issues in .76.  Too bad I lost all my playlist content...I should have exported them regularly.  I guess you can put my vote in for a comprehensive "bare metal restore" system for MC11... :)

Outstanding CUE issues to be resolved :

1. No duration information (in the library)

The duration of the Audio CD burning list stays at zero, because files don't have that information (missing duration information is mentioned earlier in this thread). Data CD burning is also useless because the resulting files don't have tags or useful names.

2. The last track is not imported. Needs an extra line.

MC 11.0.70 does not seem to always import the last track. I have tried with several DJ mix albums (ripped with EAC & LAME).

The CUE sheets are very basic format, e.g.:
Quote
PERFORMER "DJ XYZ"
TITLE "Album 1"
FILE "DJ XYZ - Album 1.mp3" MP3
  TRACK 01 AUDIO
    TITLE "Track 01"
    PERFORMER "Performer A"
    INDEX 01 00:00:00
  TRACK 02 AUDIO
    TITLE "Track 02"
    PERFORMER "Performer B"
    INDEX 01 00:54:17

...etc...until the last track:

  TRACK 18 AUDIO
    TITLE "Track 18"
    PERFORMER "Performer R"
    INDEX 01 75:09:66

If I add one more "TRACK 18 AUDIO" line (without any further information) to the end of the CUE file, also the track number 18 gets imported:
Quote
 TRACK 18 AUDIO
    TITLE "Track 18"
    PERFORMER "Performer R"
    INDEX 01 75:09:66
  TRACK 18 AUDIO

3. Needs always quotes (single word names are written without)

For MC all names must be in quotes. Even if there are no spaces. I had to edit every CUE file because EAC writes single word names without quotes (=common standard):

This is the standard, but not OK for MC:
Quote
PERFORMER "DJ XYZ"
TITLE Album
FILE Album.mp3 MP3
  TRACK 01 AUDIO
    TITLE Track
    PERFORMER "Performer A"
    INDEX 01 00:00:00
MC needs this:
Quote
PERFORMER "DJ XYZ"
TITLE "Album"
FILE "Album.mp3" MP3
  TRACK 01 AUDIO
    TITLE "Track"
    PERFORMER "Performer A"
    INDEX 01 00:00:00

4. If sample rate is set to 48 kHz (or more) in DSP studio 44.1 kHz files end too early.

If usual 44.1 kHz files are played with 48 kHz output mode tracks end too early. A 5-minute track stops at about 4 minutes and 45 seconds and MC starts the next track.

I use the 48 kHz output mode in my laptop, because it resamples anyway to 48 kHz and the integrated circuit is not so high quality.

Minor bug as it may rarely be encountered:

If all sorting criteria is removed within "Customize Current View' in the file list window, then you cannot later re-add sorting criteria as MC clears the sorting box upon clicking "Apply" or "OK".
The only way I found to restore sorting criteria was to delete the entire view scheme and re-create it from scratch.

Two fallouts, at least one from the name change I think:

1) Shell integration doesn't work.  On both computers, with shell integration enabled or not, I can't double-click on a file and have MC launch and play it.  I just a crash message.  Nor do the extra shell commands work.

2) G-Force won't install unless you make a copy of media center.exe as media jukebox.exe.  Must be in his detection system; he should be notified if his detection system is to blame.

Can't edit the filename field with this build. I happen to be moving things around right now, and I use find and replace on filename to tell MC where things are. I get a nasty Media Core error when I do this in this build. The same goes for just editing the field in the properties box.

When I revert to build 72, I can do what I need.

I have just updated my registered version of MC from an older version of 11 (8 weeks old). This is because of the timeout (no problems with this)

It is now telling me that my version is not registered!!  :-\

I know that I can re-register, but I am more concerned if I am having to to this with every timed-out betas.

Any suggestions as to how to stop this from happening?

Record Sound appears to be broken in this build.  It starts to record but when I hit stop I get a media core error.  Also when importing via drag n drop into playing now, the first time after startup never does anything and the please wait dialog stays visible. Drag n drops after this work fine but the dialog never disappears until MC is shut down.

Burn an audio CD and upon completion and CD eject, Media Center crashes . . .

Happened on both burns I did.

Converting WAV's to APE's still does not delete the WAV files even so the settings are accordingly.

Is this getting fixed  soon ?

THanks

I can't reproduce this.  Make sure your recycle bin isn't full.  Please start a new thread if it keeps happening so we can dig more.

What happened to view by disk location, artist/album in theater view?
It seems I can only start with genres for audio, and with date for images.

You can select if a view scheme shows in Theater View in the "Edit View Scheme" dialog.

The option is still there.  Click the speaker icon on the left of the volume bar or use the Player menu.
