Replay Gain (in MC 10 and 11) is a better solution, as it uses a fixed and more ideal gain for an entire song.
Volume levelling was a DSP that varied the volume adaptively as a song played. It didn't require analysis, but the adaptive volume fluctuations could be detected in some cases.

so in other words, if I analyse my entire library, each song will be played back at the same volume level?
