Title: no video on avi playback - just sound
Post by: djonsson on September 08, 2004, 12:55:12 pm
All i get is audio when playing back avi files in MC 10.

How can I get it to play back video as well?

Do these videos play with other players (windows media player, bsplayer...)?

MC use codecs that are available on your system. If the avi files you're trying to play need a specific codec (like divx, xvid...) that is not installed, MC will not be able to play them.

Edit :
Try switching to Windows media player engine if you think you have the needed codecs.
Tools/Options/PLayback/Video playback settings -> Check "Use Media player engine...."

David.

I verified the Tools/Options/PLayback/Video playback settings -> Check "Use Media player engine...." was [X] Checked.

I also verified the *.avi and *.mpg files in question played with video in WMP and RA.

So the question remains why Media Center is only playing sound and not the visuals or at least triggering the appropriate engine or app to play these files back?

I should mention I'm running Windows 2000.

Did you switch to "Playing Now"?  There are some playback options you could look at so it's automatic.
