Title: After installing latest WMP10, MC10.0.161 crashes at start of ripping
Post by: GreggP on September 10, 2004, 03:11:48 pm
I installed the latest version of Windows Media Player 10 after reading on the AVS HTPC forum that there are some pretty significant improvements to the WMA and WMV (WMT) encoders.

I still prefer to use MC10 for everything audio, but I wanted to take advantage of any codec improvements available.  I always rip using lossless WMA.

Now, when I try to rip a CD, MC10 crashes at the beginning of the rip. It seems like it no longer recognizes the WMA encoder.

Has anyone else discovered this problem?

UPDATE: MC10 still plays the WMA files without any problems, so the decoder is working fine with MC10. I've ripped a CD with WMP10 and it playing fine with MC10.

I've encountered the same problem. I recently updated my Windows Media Player to 10.0, and when I try to rip a CD track to windows lossless in Media Player, it crashes as soon as the encoding process starts.

I just gave it a shot, and mine to crashed...

Just out of curiosity, why are you using WMA lossless over ape??

Before purchasing Media Center, I used WMP9, and that's when I started using a lossless codec. WMA is the only lossless codec available in WMP. It also works with my portable player.

A Microsoft change caused some encoder profiles to stop working.

It should be fixed next build.

Nice to read that, thanks. I was just about to send this:

Media Player 10 is now on the official Windows Update site (automatic updates etc.). Any comments from JRiver? Shouldn't MC users install it? If there is a problem is it possible to fix MC 10/11 soon?

How often are new builds released?

The fix is out in MC 11.

If there are no problems with it for a week or two, it will be rolled to MC 10.

I think we're due a v10 update - lots of bugs reported including some biggies like CD burning reported a couple of weeks ago and no fix yet. :(

Okay, maybe I can use EAC until your next update (can't wait 2 weeks).

I second that thought.

If you hit a wall, MC 11 runs safely side-by-side with MC 10.

There will also be an MC 10 update in the coming weeks.
