I have a problem ripping with Media Center 11.0.85. (I upgraded my WMA encoders and it won't rip with the latest MC 10, so I was told to try using MC 11 until the next update of MC 10).
I have the following drives and settings:
Pioneer DVD-ROM DVD-116
Secure
Max
Lite-On DVDRW SOHW-8125
Secure
Max
Encode on-the-fly while ripping is enabled for both drives.
I am trying to rip a brand new CD - Oasis/Be Here Now.
The CD ripped fine with Windows Media Player 10 and EAC using both drives. It rips perfectly in MC 11 only when I use the Pioneer drive.
When I try ripping with the Lite-On a message box titled "cdripper" says, "Error reading input file" every few seconds. If I pick the 'OK' button, it will continue with the rip and create a file, but this message continues to appear and I have to keep picking 'OK'. The next message will show that the tracks completed with 100% quality. However, the track, which should have a duration of 7:42, only ends up with a duration of 0:05.
When I originally installed MC 11.0.84, I was able to successfully rip several CDs using the LiteOn drive. Then after about a half dozen CDs, this problem appeared. Then I decided to upgrade to 11.0.85, which didn't help.

This error appears to be coming from the encoding process. Please try ripping to uncompressed wave and let us know if that works. If that works, try another format besides wma (mp3, ape, etc.) so we can narrow it down to a general encoding problem or a problem with a specific encoder.
Thanks!

Okay, I tried a few other formats. Here's the results:
WAV (uncompressed): worked great, rip speed was around 8x
APE: worked very good, rip speed was around 6x
MP3 (VBR high): worked OK, rip speed was slowwww - 0.6x
After this test, I also tried turning off both 'Encode on-the-fly while ripping' and 'Rip and encode simultaneously' with WMA Lossless and it worked very well - except for the 2-pass method for ripping and encoding.
I still don't understand why MC 11 worked with this drive originally.

So if you re-enable the "rip and encode simultaneous" option again with WMA lossless, you get the same error message as before?
Send an email to me and I'll send you a wma plugin with some diagnostics that will help troubleshoot the problem.
Thanks,

How about using normal VBR for MP3?

Yes, if I re-enable "rip and encode simultaneous", I get the same error message.

Did you get my email?

Sorry, it got interpreted as Spam by my email program. It seems that it was relayed by a server which is on a list as a spam server or some such.
In any case, I'll send you something to try.
Thanks,

The next build of MC will fix this issue.
The problem affected the Lite-On SOHW 812S CD drive (and maybe others) when using secure mode ripping with rip/encode simultaneous enabled and encoding to WMA format.
Thanks for assisting in the debugging process!

You're welcome. And thanks for helping me out.
