Title: MC11 Feature List
Post by: godavego on September 20, 2004, 03:14:54 pm
Is there an MC11 feature list somewhere, or do I need to install it to find out?  I'm an MC10 user now, but I don't want to risk messing up my very stable HTPC with alpha software.  Specifically, I'm looking to see whether MC11 supports:

- Better DVD playback with pre-installed decoders, ala Zoomplayer.  I want to be able to use FFDShow and not be required to use a mouse or keyboard to run things.  Right now, I use TheaterTek for DVD playback, and it is extremely simple to operate using only a Pronto.  I have to keep it that way.  If I could get down to one Media player for everything, I will be a very happer user.

- I don't us it now, but I'm very interesting in all the upgrades to TheaterView.  Right now, you rarely see the output of my HTPC unless I'm watching a movie.  The desktop is never seen.  Everything is done with my Pronto (thank you SuperNudelist!)  However, if TheaterView gets better, then I'm thinking of hooking up a small second touchscreen to provide more flexibility.  However, I can't give up basic control from a remote.

MC 11 Improvements:
#  CUE file playback support with sample-accurate MP3 seeking
# Many Theater View enhancements
# Animated Direct3D file browsing
# Split views so you can look at two (or more) views at the same time (ex. look at Media Library and Playing Now together)
# Vastly improved database engine capable of handling 100,000's of files and large amounts of metadata (lyrics, bios, etc.)
# Several memory and speed enhancements -- like database and skin unloading when minimizing MC
# Much of MC's interface can be translated to other languages
# Integrated database import and update with smart broken linking repairing, and other nice features
# MC can run with guest permissions on Windows 2000 / Windows XP
# New view customization system with more flexibility for thumbnail size, text, etc.
# Options dialogs reworked -- several small options added
# Added multi-zone synchronization
# Added Album Gain support
# Document support with full text searching / indexing
# Pane auto-sizing
# Tile view that allows fully customizable Track Info style tiles to be used in file lists
# New database caching layer that makes a huge speed difference in many areas of MC
# File tagging happens in a background thread so MC can continue to be used while it's saving tags
# Basic image editing
# Enhanced album grouping for pictures so pictures taken together get grouped without any user intervention
# Preview mode to only play the intro of songs
# Video CD support

There's a primary feature list in the first post of each thread announcing a new build of 11.  It isn't exhaustive.

You can run MC10 and 11 side by side...

I will update the build list tonight.

Thanks for the info.  There's no mention of ffdshow support or the ability to launch a separate DVD player.  That's a dealbreaker for me.

Theater View can launch other programs.

Cool!  I must have missed that.  Any thought about allowing the DVD player to support post processors like ffdshow?  That way I wouldn't need to launch another program.  I could do everything from MC11.  For me the fewer programs the better.  My HTPC is useless to me if it isn't rock solid.  Usually, that gets harder the more programs need to be integrated.

No thoughts of support for ffdshow?

With this, I would commit my efforts to customize my HTPC around MC11 rather than a collection of other programs.

Customizing the DVD filter list is on the to-do list.

Until then, you may be able to use a filter merit editor to make MC use the filters you want.

Thank you!

I will start reconfiguring my system with this in mind.
