Don't know if this is a bug or a setup issue.

I was using MediaJukebox 9 up to now with no problems ripping from either of my drives.  I decided to upgrade to MediaCenter, and since then I cannot rip a single CD!

The symptoms:

(i)  Put in CD, YADB lookup, everything set and I select the right tracks for ripping.
(ii)  Hit "rip" and for a few seconds I see the message "initializing".  Then next thing I know, it indicates complete without having done anything!

I looked thru the forum and did not see anyone with this same issue, and I tried updating to the latest MC to try to fix things, with no change.

Is this a bug or simply a problem with setting up MC?

Sunil

Darn...

Any estimates on when this might be fixed? (My 30 day trial for v11 only has about 20 days left).  :)

Thanks!!

I've used MC9 &10 without ever having this problem. But I just got a new computer and have a problem playing files.

When playing an mp3 file: If I click on the FF button to advance to the next song, MC advances to the next song, and halts playback.  Similarly, if I click on the display bar to advance to a different part of the song, playback stops.  The play/pause button shows pause, indicating that the file should be playing.

Title: Error reading ID3v2 tags in some files
Post by: s0nspark on September 30, 2004, 02:30:44 pm
I have noticed that MC has a problem reading the tags in some mp3 files

http://www.mcgeecorp.com/downloads/sample.mp3

Winamp, WMP9, and Tag&Rename do not have a problem with them, however, so it might be a bug.

Cheers,
Tim

If you are addressing me, Jim, yes I did try rebooting.  And also disabling/re-enabling the shell extension.  I'll try reinstalling MC.  Thanks.
Title: Re:Media Center 10.0.173 Available
Post by: Stupid User on October 07, 2004, 10:21:25 pm
Reinstalling didn't help.  Next step, I guess, is for me to see if it is a conflict with another shell extension.  I am not sure that's even a reasonable possibility, but I can try to find out.
Title: Re:Media Center 10.0.173 Available
Post by: Stupid User on October 08, 2004, 01:55:29 am
Disabling other shell extensions (with NirSoft ShellExView (http://www.nirsoft.net/utils/shexview.html)) didn't help.

But reinstalling Media Center 10.0.155 and rebooting did restore the icon to the MC shell extension.

I know this is very minor, but I thought I'd point it out anyway, in case it wasn't an intentional change.

I have a load of jpg files in my library that are tagged with artist and album information.  These files will not respond to rules like media Type = Audio or File Type = MP3 i.e. they are still included in the view schemes.  If I remove the artist / album tags from the jpg's they disappear from the view schemes.

This is very annoying as i want to keep front and back cover art in my library but I don't want it to show up in all my view schemes.

Can this bug be fixed?

Title: SORTING ERROR
Post by: Nick-S on October 17, 2004, 07:37:58 am
Hi,

there's still one annoying bug with the sorting.  :'(

I have sorted my music like this:

All tracks are sorted in three levels. The "deepest" is the track-number, the next the CD-number and the "upper-level" is the album-titel.

And as you can see, the tracks are well sorted for albums with more than one CD.  :)

But when I double-click on an album in the "Album Thubnails - List Style" then the track-sorting is wrong in the Playing Now-View!!!!!  :'(  :-\  The tracks are just sorted according to the track number! WHY Couldn't they also be sorted like in the first screenshot?

I hope you understand, what I'm trying to say...

Best Regards,

Nick

Nick-S,

That can be a bug or a preferred way. The view sorting can be anything; should MC always use that when full albums are send to the Playing Now?

I renumber my multi-CD albums, I would have track numbers 1-44 for that album. The original numbering comes from the CD disk space limitation. A hard drive is not limited. You have a "Medium #" field. You could also have a "CD Track #" field if you need to preserve that information for some reason.

My 30 day trial expired today. I'm disappointed because I had to purchase the upgrade if I want to continue ripping CDs to WMA Lossless. I was told long ago that this would be fixed in v10 and it hasn't. I've only been using MCv11 for ripping, because I'm not sure if it is ready for full time use. I'm still using MCv10 for playback and management of my library. I guess I'll just keep running them both.

Hi. I've had this problem before, but it has returned and is a real pain.
I have a few Gb of media files on my hard drive and I can never complete an "Import Media" operation without it crashing at some point during the process.

Hence, without doing it folder by folder (for each artist) in smaller chunks I can never get the whole of my music collection imported into my MC library.

Has anyone else had similar problems? Help  >:(

I have tried a full uninstall and removal of the library files etc., but to no avail...

This seems to be a strange 10.0.173 bug.  I have about 700 CDs ripped to WMA Lossless.  I use a Pronto with Supernudelist to select albums to play.  As a result, I added an AlbumID tag to all my WMA files.  Everything worked perfectly.  Unfortunately, my system drive died recently, and I had to rebuild my system.  Thankfully, my WMAs were on a different drive, so I didn't loose any of them.  When I rebuilt my library is where I noticed the problem.  After I was up and going again, several hundred WMA files had their AlbumID tag cleared.  Which files were affected seemed to be random.  Some albums had one or two WMA files with missing AlbumID, some had only one or no WMA files with an AlbumID value.  The AlbumID tag was there, but the value was cleared.  It took me quite a while to get all the IDs back in there.

Obviously, this is not something that would happen every day, but I was a little nervous to see that tags had been tampered with.

Precise series of steps I took:

1) Rebuilt the OS (XP Pro)
2) Installed 10.0.173
3) Imported my files from D:\Media
4) Realized I didn't have AlbumID in the library, so I added it.
5) Updated MC library from WMA tags
6) Built AlbumID/Album view for use by Supernudelist
7) This is when I noticed all the files without an AlbumID.  Out of 8000 files, close to 1000 did not have an AlbumID tag value.  The tag was there.  It was just blank.

I've been testing with v9 a friend gave me to try out, and it's just what I was looking for.
Yesterday, I registered for this version.  Now when I try to rip a cd, the program stops responding.  I did notice that if I insert the CD after Media Center is running, at the bottom of the windows it says 'Gathering Files'.

I'm running W2K pro with the latest updates.  I have 2 DVD burners in the system (no CD-ROM), and use Nero with InCD quite frequently.

Any ideas??  I'm in the process of moving most my CD collection to HD so I can play it through my D-Link Media Lounge.

Thanks much

I'm registered for Media Center 10 and currently using version 10.0.139.

When I click "help" and "check for updates" I am never successful with the upgrade downloading properly.  It always stops and I have tried to restart it many times but without success.  If I try to download the new version from the main website then I'm stuck with a "unregistered" version again!

What do I do???

Thanks in advance for any help, here.

and the box comes up, it also has the wrong album cover.  It has the right stats but the wrong picture from
the album.

Do you have WMP10 installed?

If so try uninstalling WMP10 and installing WMP9, then Reinstall MC.

I think there is a problem with the new WMP encoder in WMP10.

I also belive this is fixed with MC11

I refuse to pay for another upgrade again to get something working that has always worked.

Since upgrading to .173 I'm getting a 'deskbar has time out' message every time I start MC.

I've followed some advice to unregister it but it says the .dll can't be found even though it's sitting where it should be.

How do I get it off my system?

Thanks.

I just started using MC recently, but I noticed this bug pretty quick:

The highlight bar in the left window highlights backwards from how it should.  When you are 'in' the left window, it is a light (washed-out) colour.  When your are 'in' the right window, it is a darker colour.  Doesn't matter what skin...and you can easily tell because it doesn't follow the same logic that the right window does (for highlighting).

Can this be fixed in 10?  Or, only in 11?

This seems to be a strange 10.0.173 bug.  .... After I was up and going again, several hundred WMA files had their AlbumID tag cleared.  Which files were affected seemed to be random.  Some albums had one or two WMA files with missing AlbumID, some had only one or no WMA files with an AlbumID value.

After rebuilding the database, I also had missing tags. resp. tags left blank. When opened with a hex editor, these files were still containig the tags and values. Also importing into MC9 works  without any problem.
All these MP3s are stored on a linux fileserver running samba  smb service. The application and also the database is stored on a local drive on an XP system.
Any MP3 which lost  tags on  import, could be imported without problems, when it was moved to the local  drive before.

Renaming files from tags does not work corrrect when saving to the linux server.

MC9 handled this without problems.
There must be a problem  in MC10s file handling!  :-[

Well,

Built a HTPC for my one of my sons to give to his wife for Xmas. Put MyHTPC (freebe) on it with examples.

After Xmas, they decided they like my setup with MC10 way better.

So they bought MC10.

Then I get a call, "Why will MC10 not rip to wma/lossless".

Told them I remember a prob. with WMP10, unload it and put WMP9 on.

Still cant rip.

I have not looked at their sys yet, but whats the easest way around this ?

Swaping the lossless files in plugins ?

Thanks

Addendum:  I just got the message, "The instruction at "0x0z394bba" referenced memory at "0x00000000". The memory could not be read"

I consistently experience this too, always within the play time of the first song or when clicking a link in the upper left menu (Playing Now, Media Library, etc.) of MC 10.0.173.

Media Jukebox.exe - Application Error  "The instruction at '0x044a6839' referenced memory at '0x00000184'.  The memory could not be 'read'.  Press OK to terminate."  The program closes upon "OK".

My system is otherwise stable.  I can't make use of the program with this bug.  Ever since installing, this program crashes as described.

Will it be fixed, and do I need to wait for release of v.11?

Are you using a third party plug-in?  Audioscrobbler?

Please start a thread on this.

Thanks!  I disabled Audioscrobbler in the registry as suggested in the thread recommended by JimH, above.  The problem's solved!  ... Later I'll work on getting Audioscrobbler to work without causing the problem.

Problem:
when I switch to a list in my organization the right pane comes up with that list with above that in a separate pane the information about that list. No problem so far.
But the list comes up with the first three lines 'hidden'. I always have to scroll up to view it from number one on.

Question:
Where can things be set about that information-pane which I mentioned above? The one with the cover-art shown in it.
Is it correct that it doesn't show all the covers availabe in the list?

Here are some problems and queries with MC 10.0.173 that I’d appreciate help with.

If you try to delete a file (Shift + Delete) from playlist, it will often delete the wrong file.

Empty fields are sometimes filled with bogus data:  32 for track number and 2001 for year.

As track approaches end of song (about last 7 seconds) elapsed time disappears from display.

Is there a way to refresh view, after changes have been made without exiting that window and returning?

Thank you for any help.

>Unless it's a MAJOR bug it's not going to get fixed in version 10 as version 11 is going to be released very soon.

>The empty field and elapsed time behavior are "normal" and have been around since v8.

>As to the last question, I believe the answer is no, (I think this is normal Windows behavior).

>So to the first question, this is probably a bug which never got fixed. But as it is not major, it never will. You could move on to v11 with it's new and improved features.... MC is always an evolving project! ;D

Thanks ModelMaker.  I've been periodically checking back here to see if I would get any feedback.  I appreciate it.

Bug Report:

Picture Playback in Media Center 10.0.173 - When playing back pictures only, no sound playing and moving and then stop moving the mouse:

with connected to media center server over LAN:
(with a there is a black square in the bottom right hand corner which does not disappear after a timeout

with local media:
with a there is the filename in the bottom right hand corner which does not disappear after a timeout

The correct behaviour is shown when using the slideshow module, the filename of the picture appears and then disappear correctly in the bottom right hand corner when moving and then stop moving the mouse.

Problem/Bug:

I've been using Media Jukebox since it was way back in version 4.0, and have found it very useful and enjoyable.  I got to switch to Media Center 10 as a Christmas present from my mom.  Unfortunately, now when I burn CD's.. the first track on the CD seems fine, but the rest have a few seconds cut out of the beginning of the tracks.  I've tried burning the same playlist with Nero.. and it works just fine... so I'm guessing it must be something having to do with MC.
The problem happened both when attempting to burn on drives E and F.
