MC is crashing when I play quicktime mp4 files from iTunes. Something about the quicktime.qts file. Any ideas? I'll post more details later after work. Just happened all of the sudden. Won't recover, either. I rebooted and everything. Updated MC to 10.0.173 from 10.0.6xx. Still Nothing.

Can you play them in Quicktime?

Sure, I can play then in Quicktime, if iTunes counts. Here's the initial message...

I repaired my iTunes/Quicktime installation w/ Apple's setup program, and that didn't help either...just FYI.

Paul,
Were these files playing before? Can you try playing them in Quicktime (as opposed to iTunes) and post the result. Can you post a link to one of the files?

I tried a few files in just regular old Quicktime, and they worked. So then I went back to MC, and suddenly, they worked there, too. I'm wondering if it was a permissions issue. Just last week I authorized my laptop to play iTunes files. Wonder if that had something to do with it....
Thanks for all the attention, in any case. I'll holler is if happens again.

OK, I'm back. Same problem. It comes and it goes, for what reason nobody knows:
AppName: media jukebox.exe AppVer: 10.0.173.0 ModName: quicktime.qts
ModVer: 6.5.1.17 Offset: 001095b9
Thought it was a DRM issue, but this morning not even the unprotected (free iTunes downloads) work. I'd send a file but you can't play it if it's protected (I bought it), can you?
Let me know exactly what kinds of info you need. I'll check back periodically. This issue is starting to get under my skin...
Also, can I expect MC to burn m4p files? Or do I need to do those in iTunes? If the latter is the case, I might just circumvent the whole AAC playback problem by burning the few files I do have, ripping and then reimporting them as OGG or APE.
Let me know. Hope you're having a great weekend. Minneapolis has been beautiful these past couple days. (Lake Harriet!)

Paul,
OK, I'm back. Same problem.
Now that the problem has reoccured, can you play the files in Quicktime (not iTunes)?
I'd send a file but you can't play it if it's protected (I bought it), can you?
No, but send me a link to a file at iTunes music store and I will test it.
Also, can I expect MC to burn m4p files?
As a data file, yes. As a music file, no.

Yes, I can still play them in Quicktime. In my trials, I then immediately tried them in MC, but to no avail.
I imagine you could test any iTunes file. When it doesn't work, none of my files work. It's not just one or two of them.
The point about burning makes the most difference to me, I guess. Since I can't burn them in MC, I'll need to burn them in iTunes and rerip if I even want to make a compilation CD. *sigh* At least I won't be dealing with this compatability issue any longer. I just can't imagine what is going wrong.
