We'd like to understand how the new browsing method (Library Browser) is getting used.
Thanks for your feedback.
-
Right now I use the panes the most... Maybe when the Browser gets finished I will use that.
Your not thinking of getting rid of them, are you?
-
I can't use them - every time I try, I get a message that Real can't find something and then MC crashes!

I've got too many artists and albums to use the tree anymore so the panes are my primary browsing mechanism.
The new library browser is pretty neat though. I could see myself using it more and more if I could customize it to my preferences, if it were faster and and if I don't need to upgrade to XP to have it display correctly.
The library browser would be a great party mode interface as well.
Thing's I'd like to see...
Customize which fields the tabs use.
Coverart on/off (per tab. I.E. off for artist, on for album.)
Fields to see in the boxes
Animation on/off

Right now I'm using panes the most. I don't use the tree at all, and I only use the Library Browser to see what's new.
The main reason I'm only using panes is because of my View Schemes. If the Library Browser would let me create new view schemes, so that the tabs across the top represented the fields I pick, then I would be more likely to use it.
I also prefer panes because of the integrated tagging mode. Find a way to incorporate that into Library Browser, along with the view schemes and I'll make the switch in a heartbeat.
-
Right now only panes.
My opinion is that panes are the work-horse for heavy tagging and reorganizing your media files. The library browser as it is now might be good for parties as RemyJ suggested above.
Personally I would put some more effort to make the tile view better. The current view is pretty useless for somebody that doesn't use lyrics and for images it is totally inappropriate. I feel a configurable tile view that would also allow more than one line of information or display album title with all tracks on the side would be a more valuable contribution.
Power-Users always prefer functionality over fancy outlook. If you want to make a fancy version, why not split the product into a beginners version and a professional version as suggested long time ago?

Hi Jim & the interact gang,
Using the panes most of the time on my MC10 machine.
But I like what I saw on MC11 with the library browser. thought I did not really play with it extensively.

Currently using tree for top level browsing only - no need for this if included in panes or take up Jaguu's suggestion of virtual media type.
Using panes predominantly for browsing. New browser needs to be more adaptable to user needs and then it can be included as options within current pane system (see previous post).
Tagging is best via panes - must remain.
At the moment using 3 - combine all into 1 improved pane system that incorporates tree as top level browsing and the library browser displays as optional within.
Keep library browser in some form.

With more control and more speed I'd use the new Library Browser more.

Panes
Library Browser
-
For me it's a combination of panes and tree. Panes to find things, Tree to skip between file view, smartlists & my own presets of panes & view-styles.
The new browser has some visually niceties, but is functionally way too limited to handle the complexity that I can manage with the panes etc.
-
i spend most of my time rating new songs, but otherwise library browser
-
I am usually just in Now Playing or Playlists.
But when I am letting others pick what they want to listen to, they (and I) like the new Library Browser. When I tell them to let the mouse stay over the album for an artist and it starts changing, they think it's pretty cool. It would be cooler if when you clicked on one it took you to that album's selections.
You know it's a good idea when others immediately come out with a standalone version.

I also like the little album art icons in lists.

Panes are great. Need to be able to adjust them with mouse however rather thatn auto.
I WOULD REALLY LIKE TO SEE THIS IMPLEMENTED: http://www.sprote.com/clutter/ (http://www.sprote.com/clutter/)!!!!
What do you guys think?

I agree - please implement.

Panes mostly, was the big feature introduced in 9.1
Tree for skipping between library, and smartlists. I wish it was possible to make a button shorcut to specific points in the tree then i would hardly use the tree much.
Not yet played with v11 (its still *COUGH* alpha)

This seems like an interesting idea if you wanted to play with a few albums, but what if there are many 100s of albums in the library ?
-
Just put your favorites, maybe 30 or so depending on screen and cover size(they can be overlaped and stacked) and then the rest view as you have allready been inside MC.
A buddy of mine has his maicntosh hooked up to his tv.
You can also put your favorite playlists on there I believe.
But since this takes the user outside of the MC environment, maybe JRiver thinks it would be a bad idea.
I sure don't

It's eye-candy for sure. Or in the case where you only want to display/play a certain list of albums.
I'm waiting to hear how useful it is. It would appear once u have your favorites in there, it works well. But what if you want to add/remove stuff from there. The to and fro would make it tedious than the way things are.
Whereas in MC, you dont have to set up a list as the library is only a few clicks away regardless of theater or library views.

panes for me, i have the view schemes all customised (very handy feature)
I might use the new Library Browser if it had more customisation options ie: thumbnail size, font size, number of columns.... but it still runs a little slow with a large library.
-
Firstly I use the Tree for main branch:
Audio
|__
MP3 Singles
Ripped Albums
Downloaded Albums
The I use the Panes for finding what I want (Artist, Album.)
I use Theatre View for the TV or parties.
I dont use the broswer...sorry I just don't see a benefit.
Cheers

The library is nice but I also like the flexibility and power offered by the Panes with their customizable View Schemes (which can include embeded Smartlist results and Calculated custom fields).
I might come to use the Library Browser for generally playing music once it grows on me a bit, but I could not live without the Panes for library maintenance and custiom schemes.

Have just started using MC11, but already like the Library Browser. currently use it with the audio pane.
