Title: Urgent - Back Up Libraries Lost
Post by: Marra on October 03, 2004, 05:03:12 pm
Panic!!!
My computer crashed while using MC11.  Restarted MC
and it came up with message MC failed to load default library.  Reinstalled mc11.93 - tried to restore  any backups and got message every time "Library restore failed". Now I'm left with no files.  I don't want to re-import files and recreate and re-tag 20,000 files - please no!  Help!

Well....If you have no option but to re-import, it doesn't mean that they have to be re-tagged as well.

When you modify tags in MC, (most of) the tags are stored in the file, are they not?

So, a re-import should have most of the info from the files.

Did the library backups get clobbered when you re-installed MC? (I store my MC Backups in another directory on my server rather than under the MC program directory).

Thanks for reply.
I assume I will lose tags in fields that I've added for sub-genres and tags from using aTagger.  This is a big job to re-enter. Then there's all the tree and view schemes...
I have all the zip backups in C:\Documents and Settings\Alan\Application Data\J River\Media Center 11\Library Backups but none will load.   Actually I can't  get into MC at all as it loops with error failed to load library, please re-install OR message with the libarary is probably corrupt, would you like to start with a fresh library.  If I re-start I can't restore any back-ups from any time.
I haven't done a complete uninstall/re-install as I'm afraid what data I might lose.

Any ideas - it seems all the data is still there I just can't get MC to recognize it.

why do you Assume that?

It does depend on the media format, if it is a mp3 they should be there

re-create the fields (if needed) then import

Success.
Only way around it was
1. Started with a fresh library.
2. Added fields.
3. Imported 300 files.
4 Only them would restore library work.
Dumbfounded but reliefed.
Thanks for your responses and now to replace troublesome PC.

Could you send one of the backups to matt @ jriver.com?

Thanks.
