Title: OT: help me figure out this song please
Post by: FlyingCowOfDoom on October 04, 2004, 01:27:39 am
Does anyone know what the name of this song:

It is always played in movies and tv when someone sees someone and falls in love with them.  You know, the show will go to slow motion, and this orchestra will start playing the song...it's always the same song.

I'm going nuts trying to find it, thanks in advance if anyone knows.

Are you kidding? This could be like any of eight thousand songs. Could you give us a movie in which the song appears? A scene number?

Thompson Twins - If You Were Here

That's gotta be the #1 song.....of the 80s anyway.  ;)

I think I know the song he's talking about. It's VERY recognizable. I have no idea what it's called, though.

It's like... hmm... how do you describe music?

It's mostly used in comedies now, I think.... it's really cheesy. It's definitely not Thompson Twins, though, as it's like an orchestra piece.

I'll guess Grieg's Peer Gynt Suite #1 (Morgenstimmung)

It's commonly used for mornings, new beginnings, and romance.

How about the Bolero (not sure if that's the title) from the movie 10.  The scene where Bo Derek meets Dudley Moore on the beach.

Or, the theme song from Chariots of Fire.

Or Mozart, Andante from Piano Concerto No. 21.

For films I think it was first used in the file "Love Story" back in the '70s.

Ok, since the midi file absolutely didn't help,  ::) I'll throw some songs on the table:
Unchained Melody (symphony version)
Arias - 07 - Puccini - Madam Butterfly - Un Bel' Di
Carmen (many songs)
La Donna e Mobile
La traviata (in pretty woman...)
What The World Needs Now Is Love
Chi Mai - Ennio Morricone
Shama Lama Ding Dong - Animal House (J/K)  :P
Love Story
Check out Aretha Franklyn's songs as well ::)
...

Too many to list. You should try to think of which movie you last ehard that song in.

That would help us.

Well, if you didn't recognize it from the Midi you won't recognize it anywhere...does anyone else recognize the song from the Midi?  Just so I know I'm not going crazy or anything.

I saw it last the other night on a rerun of the "Fresh Prince".  Don't know what movies it is in.

You're not going crazy!  I've now got an office load of people pulling their hair out trying to remember what it's called!

So I've heard the Midi file. I think what you are thinking of is the love theme from Tchaikovsky, Romeo and Juliet. If you find the piece of music it's around 15 minutes or so, but the theme occurs a couple of times in there.

Hope this helps!
