When i activate the server (in plugins) MC11 crashes with the error:
ppName: media center.exe AppVer: 11.0.98.0 ModName: server_library.dll ModVer: 1.0.0.1 Offset: 00002258
System is Windows XP SP2, this accours on any port i choose
i deinstalled the SP2 (update) and the error still accurs with SP1
i deactivate "Respond to Auto-Detection Request" mc starts normally, but the server still isnt reachable
Remote Server still runs fine on Port 80, and Library Server should run on Port 88
Here my Systeminfo i hope this help

When i activate the server (in plugins) MC11 crashes with the error:
This only happens when the server is starting? That would be when you click the "enable" button, or
when starting Media Center after the server has already been enabled, (or after you change the options).
It does not happen if you turn off "Respond to Auto-Detection Requests"?
Assuming I understand everything, you can probably get Library Server to work by creating a new library, entering the IP address and port by hand. With the Auto Detect turned off, you can't use "Search for Media Servers".
Let me know if I am understanding.

when "Respond to Auto-Detection Requests" is activated and i start the server ist crashes instantly.
the port dosnt seem to have anything to do with it, it allways happens if this option is activated
-
creating a new library and netering ip+port manualy dosnt work either, i cant connect

creating a new library and netering ip+port manualy dosnt work either, i cant connect
I'm working on the crashing problem, I should have a new version soon.
For not connecting, that should work. Double check all your details. Make sure you are using the
right address and port. Try connecting on the same machine to 127.0.0.1:<Port>

No joy on the media server front I'm afraid...
Client and server on the same subnet, and running .98. Server using port 81.
Search for media servers locates the server.
Library downloads OK, and can be browsed. When a file is double clicked, I receive "An invalid argument was encountered"
-
From the thread where this was first announced:
Media Center build 11.0.97 has a new server that will soon replace most of Media Server. You can use it to share the library of one PC to another PC, even across the Internet.
At this time, this is how it works.
In MC, under the tree, under plug-ins, you'll find the Library Manager plug-in. Set the options here and "enable" it.
You can also convert lossless formats to MP3 or WMA or other lossy formats that can be streamed over lower bandwidth collections (home to work, for example). This is controlled in MC's Tools/Options/Library section.
All this is a little rough still, so please be patient. But let us know what you think works well in the current implementation -- and what doesn't.
Remember that both the client PC and the server must be running the same build.
Thanks.
-
If I deactivate the option "Respond to Auto-Detection Requests" I can connect marvelously local and also on another PC with the server. I must only the server by hand enter thank first times, why it does not fold yet with the automatic ?
Sorry for my bad englisch ;)
-
I don't know. I'm working on this though.
Remember the Autodetect does not work across routers.
j
-
Ok one to hear beautifully to one works ::) however why crasht the server if the option on is? ?
-
Yes, same issue with "An invalid argument was encountered" trying to play files from the server. No problems connecting. I can see in the console it gets the art for the files (it also shows up in the client). Both client and server are today's build. I don't see anything on the server after the cover art is sent. Nothing there when the attempt is made to play the file from the server.

Make sure that the old Media Server isn't running.
-
Jim, thanks, no the old Media Server is not running. I've turned off any firewall software on both machines and still have the error. As a test I disabled the new plugin and fired up the old Media Server. Unfortunately, I know get the same error with that one as well. I'm pretty sure the server is not receiving the request to stream the file. Is there a switch to enable more verbose debug on the server side to see if that is the case or something to enable on the client side?

So, if I'm using Media Server to serve TiVo, I should not use this new Library thing, and only use the old Media Server, right?

issue with "An invalid argument was encountered" trying to play files from the server. No problems connecting.
Same problem here (both mp3 and ogg format). No problem to play image files from the server though.

Hello.
Well a reboot on the client machine and I am now able to play files that are on the Library Server. Something from v10 must have been left over.
I have one question. I am playing back WAV files from the LIbrary Server... are these being streamed or is it just playing the file back? I want to know if you are processing the signal at all which my change quality of playback.
I have sound the following bugs?
(These have existed in v10 for awhile)
1. When playing back WAV files the display does not display the bitrate correctly. Example:
Should be: 0:22 / 4:47 - 1411 kbps 1 of 3
Instead: 0:22 / 4:47 - ? 1 of 3
2. Under Playback -> Settings if you set Seek Smooth (normal) it does not have any effect on playback of files from the Library Server. I actually wonder if other items like DSP setting work.
3. My environment has one Media Center Server. Then 3 PCs on my netork at home are accessing this system. If I connect directly to the files on the server I can measure Media Center playback time in days or weeks. If I try the same using Media Server or Library Server I measure in minutes or hours. It always freezes. Sometimes on the second song played back sometime after a couple of hours. Once it playback stops Media Center has to be restarted.
I will start the test again now with the new version and see how long it runs.
Chris

Jim,
I spoke to soon. As long as I am logged into the local machine as a adminstrator it works. After setup is complete and I log into the same system as a domain user I am getting "An invalid argument was encoutnerd" when trying to play music from the server.
Any thoughts....

Can you play music on the local machine as a domain user WITHOUT contacting the server? Just copy a file to the local machine, create a library and import it if you don't have any music available there.

I have the same problem on install on the server side.
During the installation of MC (Server) I get the following error:
Failed to install package.
More Info: Failed to register object.
C:\Program Files\J River\Media Center 11\Plugins\server_library.dll

I am getting this same error. Windows 2000 machine, logged in as the domain administrator. User rights on the J River folder and all subfolder is full control for administrators and everyone and system.
The server doesn't show up in the tree under plugins at all.
Do we have a solution for this or should I wait for tomorrow's build?
-
John,
Yes, I can play locally. Right now I am playing the network files using mapped drives.
That seems to be working without a problem.
If I switch between the local library and the library server the local library works but the library server throws the argument error.
Chris
-
I have the same error on the remote PC when attempting to play the library via the Library Server:
"An invalid argument was encountered"
- .98 installed on both PCs (WinXP Pro), without error.
- Old Media Server is not running
- MC running the server plays library loaded via server ok
- MC on remote PC plays local library ok & main library via mapped drive
Main PC running Library Server has the library on a USB connected HD
-
Don't use "search for media servers". Use a library entry with an IP address for now.
-
switch off 'search for media servers' doesn't make any difference...
always : 'an invalid argument was encountered'
switching off the plugin and using the 'old' media server instead doesn't make any difference...
still the same problem on the client
Marcel
-
Would someone having the "Invalid Argument" problems let me access their server for testing?
If so, drop me an e-mail at gateley @ jriver. com (without spaces).
j
-
A little more information
I'm able to connect from my PC at the office, with 2 firewalls in between. However, I.m still getting "an invalid argument was encountered" whenever I try to play a track.
The cover art is streaming down correctly, as the little icons are filled in, and I can see the successful requests for cover art from the server plugin screen.
The play error appears to be on the client side (Both ends are running the current version), as it occurs immediately on a double click - there appears to be no attempt at all to go to the server, and there are no requests, failed or otherwise on the server plugin screen.
Hope this helps.
-
Even easier, if you are having the invalid argument problem, could you send me your library?
j
-
As a test, try changing the encoder and bitrate in Options > Library. Do you still get invalid arguments after that?
-
John - I've sent you an email with the url of my library - I trust that this is what you are looking for?
Matt - I tried it and still no go. I actually turned conversion off. It appears to be client side, so it's not even trying to access the server conversion. I've set it back to MP3 at 192 for John to test with.
-
I'm still having this invalid argument error as well.
Looking at the status page, it seems like requests aren't making it to the server (no error messages on the server). The library is downloaded however.
If I need to send anything to you guys let me know.
-
Hi paulr,
Under Tools->Options->Library, try changing the encoder options. Then go back in and disable it if you wish.
Let me know if that fixes it.
j
-
Any ideas on not being able to install the plugin on the Win2k machine? Installed fine on the laptop with XP, but that's the client machine.
-
Hi John,
Unfortunately that didn't help. I tried a few different encoding options including disabling it.
The message is popping up on the client the instant I try to play something.
Thanks,
Paul
-
Errr... I forgot to mention - try changing the options on the client. Changing them on the server affect nothing .
Sorry,
j
-
I think I may have found a bug with the Library Server:
Everytime I try to sync my iPod via the Library Server it falls over on the following file:
10/11/04 21:49:50 - Received request for a file: D:/Music/Music Library/AQS Downloads/Slumberland/03 - Lucia Hwong - Generic Actress
10/11/04 21:49:50 - Error sharing file, file type not supported
When I look at the actual file its full name is:
03 - Lucia Hwong - Generic Actress #3.mp3
I tried renaming it to take out the '#' character and I was then able to play it via the Server.
Could it be that any files with '#' characters in are not being recognised correctly?
-
Ahh ok. I was thinking that the encoding was set at the server. It works fine now.
An interesting note:
Apparently I forgot to install the LAME encoder when I installed MC11 initially. When I changed the encoding on the client to MP3, it just sat there waiting... I checked the server and it was prompting me to download and install LAME. I told the server to download it and playback started immediately after it was installed.
Very nice!
Paul
-
enable/disable the encoding settings on the CLIENT fixed it for me as well....
