Jim,
I just wanted to point out that my Virtual Drives were NOT the issue, removing them had no effect. My problem was related to the LAME encoder being set to high quality as discovered later in the thread.
it might save someone unnecessary uninstalling/reinstalling.....

Install problems can also be related to insufficient Windows temp file space. Try running IE, then choosing Tools/Internet Options/Temporary Internet Files/Delete Files.

Sometimes an uninstall, reboot, reinstall will fix an incomplete install.

There was no solution, just my experience of a bad onboard promise controller. Every file that passed through it came out the other side corrupted. To put it mildly, it was not a good time!

I have made adjustments to the WASAPI by checking the box "add a little silence....." which helped a lot but a single really loud (potentially damaging) POP gets through. Is there anything to be done about this. Perhaps a parameter to make the "add a little silence" just a bit longer??

I am running iTunes on Windows 8.1 on an older Gateway GT5220. I recently upgraded from Windows XP to Windows 8.1 and the Dragonfly 1.0 stopped working. (arrrgh!) I confirmed every setting on the Audioquest site to get it operational but nothing worked until.... I launched VLC Media player, aimed it at my iTunes music and it played a song without issue! I shutdown VLC and re-launched iTunes and I now have sound again! (sigh of relief) - My take on this: VLC had some kind of "lock" on the audio devices that would not allow me to redirect iTunes to the Dragonfly. I think it is time to dump iTunes for my future, incoming high-fidelity music and jump on the JRiver bandwagon! Good luck out there!

I originally ripped my CD collection with Exact Audio Copy, so long ago. The file names on my PC contained the glyphs, such as "Gymnopédie No.1 - Lent et douloureux.wav", but the library displayed # for é. After some research I realized that Exact Audio Copy must have had the unicode support to write the file name correctly, but not in the ID3 Tags.

The fix was to copy to the correct file / album name from the internet and paste it into the tag in JRiver, and then update the IDV3 tag in the actual file on the PC by highlighting/selecting the songs/albums in the library, and then going to Tools>Library Tools>Update Tags From Library.

This procedure fixed the ID3 tag in the actual file on my PC and forever made the problem go away!

To check it you can Update Library From Tag and see, that when the ID3 tag is imported from the file its still correct. Hope this helps someone.
