Title: Media Center 11.0.99 Alpha Available
Post by: Matt on October 12, 2004, 04:20:51 pm
We're still working on Media Center 11.  We appreciate your feedback on it, but MC11 may not work as expected and we can't yet fully support it.  When upgrading from MC 10, you will lose your view schemes.  Some plugins still do not work.

We recommend that you use MC10 below, but if you want to use MC 11 while we're building it, PRICES are here:
http://yabb.jriver.com/interact/index.php?board=3;action=display;threadid=23311 (http://yabb.jriver.com/interact/index.php?board=3;action=display;threadid=23311)

If you want a more trouble-free experience, please download Media Center 10 here:

Media Center 11 is available here:
ftp://ftp.jriver.com/pub/downloads/music/MediaCenter110099.exe  [see price link above]

I've got the same bug. Opening the CD Ripping Options dialogue by clicking on the Options link in the CD Rip Action Window and then clicking on OK causes MC to crash. Ctrl+O or using the menus, Tools, Options does NOT cause MC to crash. I can repro on 3 computers.

I've reported this since build 97.

Hi guys - while MP3 coversion during transfer no longer results in an error message, and the advanced options are indeed correct, the following still occurs:

- Files in \temp are locked and remain after MC11 has exited
- The files contain no tags.

This is regardless of whether I choose MP3 or WMA as the output format.  Using the Convert Audio tool works, but Portable Device transfer doesn't.  Any ideas?

Bug:
Click on portable devices.  Click on a device.  Click on SYNC button.
Bottom of panel says -3.3GB available after sync.   That's probably correct as the library is larger than the device can hold.  I right click and choose unselect all from the options.  It doesn't recalc and say 15GB available after sync.  I check a checkbox for a single playlist which contains 5GB of mp3 files.  The display doesn't recalc and say 10GB available after sync and it won't allow me to sync.

Workaround:  Click the "transfer all files" checkbox.  Now it recalcs and says -20GB available after sync, which would be correct.  Now uncheck it and it finally says 15GB available after sync.  Now I can select that 5GB playlist and though it doesn't recalc, it will let me sync since it's less than capacity.

Shouldn't have to click the transfer all files checkbox to recalc the capacity, should happen as each playlist checkbox is checked or unchecked.
I can dupe this on both ipod and Archos recorder devices.

All these relate to running Theaterview on one monitor (a TV) while not displaying MC on the other monitor...

Problem 1: There is no elegant way to start up MC so that it just displays Theaterview. Running "mjextman.exe /Mode Theater" puts up MC on my PC monitor in addition to Theaterview on my TV.

Problem 2: When I run an external program from the Theaterview menu, the main MC window ceases to be minimized.

Problem 3: Running any mjextman.exe commands unminimize the main MC window.

It seems like these behaviors should be relatively easy to fix. I received no replies to a separate thread where I raised these issues, so I presume these behaviors do indeed constitute bugs.

Getting strange color and text graphics glitches in the AW during "rip progress" while ripping a CD.

Also - despite a complete uninstall and reinstall - still not getting a rip speed above 2.0. The difference with this build is that at least MC11 is "revving up" my CD drive - didn't happen at all in previous builds.

This sounds a bit dangerous to me. If the file is locked by another app, isnt it safer to let that app release it before doing any tagging that could affect its file size ( ie IDv2 tagging).

As things were i recall, there would be a dialog window that showed the file was being tagged and it only went away when the tagging process was complete or it said there was a problem. I found this clearer. Anyone else think so ?

This is what we do.  We'll wait 10 minutes for the file to unlock.  If it doesn't, we'll show an error.

I agree. If the file is locked, move along. Report the error with the selection or file name so I can go back later if I want. But don't go back later.

In my case 99.9999 % of the time it's because I am playing the song.  why not stop the song for me. (I am not smart enough to do it myself).  Then if It is use by something else. STOP with an error message.  Just a thought.

The tag will be written once you're done playing the file.  There's no need to stop playback or show an error.

2 things....
1. Not a big fan of the dialog that locked up media center while I tagged 100 files. So I like this

2. Winamp can stop playback, tag the file and restart playback at the spot the file left off.  Can MC do this instead of waiting?

1. Go to Advanced CD Ripping Settings dialog.

2. Under Expert Options, change "Maximum combined concurrent processes" from 1 to 2 by manually typing in the 2.  Click OK.

3. Go back into the Advanced CD Ripping Settings dialog.  The setting has stayed at 1.

4. Repeat, except use the drop-down menu to change the 1 to a 2.  The setting changes to 2 correctly.

The "Artist Info" toolbar button mistakenly uses the "TV Tuner" graphic.

This would happen regradless of this "fix". tagging 100 files with idv2 tags is going to cause lots of I/O.  So its not the dialog locking the comp but the I/O.

If you still wanted to tag, as long as the file being played was not being tagged, you could continue tagging.

How about stop (or tag a file that isnt currently playing, i trained my self to do this now), tag , then play ?

The thing thats a bit upsetting is that you wont know when MC tags the file, i guess it wont put up a dialog anymore.

If you move the file for any reason,  does the file get corrupted ?

i admit, on the plus side, it makes for a more seamless tagging experience,

- When adding a smartlist with the rule "Not Album : <empty>", it should show all tracks that are not empty. It works when creating it, but when going away from the smartlist (and save it), then go back to the smartlist, it shows again the empty albums.

- In the search modifier in the "More Fields" section the field "imagefile" is not in the list

Been having this problem for a while with MC 11. After I play a song all the way through the next song receives a play count even if I stop it 2 seconds into the song. The song that I played counts as normal but on the next song when I hit stop or next it gives that song a count even though I haven't played up to the half way point of the song.

I have the top and bottom toolbars set to show text.  However, this setting gets disabled on the top toolbar, sometimes, after closing and relaunching MC11.

In other words, every few times I close and relaunch MC11, the top toolbar is showing no text, even though I've configured it otherwise.  The bottom toolbar seems fine.

1- I ALWAYS choose "Remove empty folders" after I use MC to rename files from properties.  Can this be made into an option so I can select for MC to do this by Default?

2- Can "Quick find in file/cover art directory" be made to offer a choice between the closest matches if no exact match is found?

3- Can we have the ability to back up settings such as: Toolbar customizations, Favorites, etc which are now lost with a reinstall?

Using the [Playstate] tag in the player template title, I can see that the status is "Buffering..." whenever files are playing.  For example, even right in the middle of an APE file, the [Playstate] will show "Buffering...", rather than "Playing".

If I hit the Pause button and then the Play button immediately afterward, the [Playstate] changes to the correct value, which is "Playing".

Minor issue that I haven't noticed before:  If you select a group of files in Playing Now and perform Convert Format on them, once the conversion is completed, the selection is lost and you are taken to the top of the playlist.

The reason I mention this is that I was playing around with high and extra high APE compression a long while back.  I wanted to get away from using anything but Normal compression...  When conversion takes places, the new filenames have a (1) appended to them (the extra high files are deleted).  Since I lose the selection, I have to hunt the files down again and re-select so that I can rename from properties to get rid of the (1).

Just out of curiosity, is there an easy way to isearch my library and identify the APE files that use high or extra high compression?

When listening to ape files over a wireless network (internal), if I click on the 'slider bar' to advance the playing track, it goes silent, then hits me with a .2 (or so) second shot of sound, goes silent again, then plays from the spot I clicked on.  This is with "Standard" seek option.

With "Gapless", I just get the silence, no extra shot of music in the middle.  "Smooth (fast)" is the same as "Gapless"
