Title: iTunes and LAN
Post by: Intrepide1 on October 14, 2004, 09:22:06 pm
I know about media sharing with MC; this isn't about sharing my music with MC.  All the guys in my dorm share their libraries over the LAN with iTunes.  If I don't need to download iTunes to participate in the sharing, either end, that'd be great.  So, is it possible for me to access their shared libraries with MC?  Thanks.

I doubt this is possible. In the last version of iTunes, the protocol was more open and someone wrote some software that allowed users to download someone elses files onto their machines. In 4.5, Apple tightened it up and I think it's now encrypted.
In any case, Apple are a bit funny about people reverse engineering their software. I doubt JR would try in case they got in trouble. Of course if you cracked it, there'd be nothing to stop you writing a plugin for MC

It's times like these that I wish I had the skill to do just that.  Oh well.

I bet there's an iTunes convert around here somewhere who could write one up for us.  I'd definitely be willing to drop a few bones to get iTunes off my computer.

same here, everyone in my dorm also uses Itunes and that would be cool to share the music over LAN :)
