Title: OT? - No MPEG vision playback!
Post by: sirshambling on October 18, 2004, 09:55:37 am
Since this forum is the most knowledgeable/helpful I know I'm looking for help on a problem that isn't confined to MC11.

This morning I tried to edit some MPG files and they would play OK but there was no picture. Sound was fine.

Tried playing the files in MC 11, Windows Media Player 10 and Ulead Video Studio 8 - same result. Sound but no picture.

Not knowing much about these things I assume there's some file(s) I'm missing or which have been corrupted - are these things called Codecs?

Any help would be much appreciated. TIA. John.

Are you saying that those videos worked before you edited them with some software? How did you edit them and what software did you use?

This tool may help you in determining what you need: http://www.afterdawn.com/software/video_software/video_tools/gspot.cfm (http://www.afterdawn.com/software/video_software/video_tools/gspot.cfm).

You could also search that Afterdawn (http://www.afterdawn.com) site for answers.

Thanks for replying Alex - it turns out to be the fault of the latest Catalyst drivers from ATI. A lot of people affected according to the forums at Rage 3D.

I reverted to an earlier set and everything was fine.

Very sorry - should have posted that the problem had been resolved.

John.

You are welcome, no need for apologies.  :)

So I should not update mine. The last ATI Catalyst package I have installed seems to be this: wxp-w2k-catalyst-8-042-040803a-016701c.exe.

What is the latest version that works for you?
