It appears with Windows Media Player 10 that Microsoft has introduced a new standard way of storing star ratings in WMA files.
In WMP 10, if you enable the option "Maintain star ratings as global ratings in media files" (Tools, Options, Library), then the ratings are stored in the WMA files in a tag called "WM/SharedUserRating". It uses the values 99 for 5 stars, 75 for 4, 50 for 3, 25 for 2 and 1 for 1 star.
I can't see where MC stores it's values for Ratings, but I have enabled the option "Store in file tags when possible". I've done some quick testing and Ratings that I update in MC aren't recognized by WMP and vice versa. I'm using the latest build of MC 11.
It seems to me that for maximum compatibility, MC should store it's star ratings for WMA files as per the standard way (albeit new).

MC stores it's rating's in the comment field. (I believe)
I would like to see this implemented in mp3 and wma files.

I don't store ratings in the file tags. I change them all the time and I don't like to make new media file backups just for that.

We'll update how we store rating in WMAs in a coming build.
If it hasn't happened in a week or so, remind us. (lots going on right now)
Thanks :)

Can you also add this for mp3?

Matt, you're supposed to be at your swimming lesson.. Well since you've ditched it you might as well release a new build, eh?

MC stores the rating in MP3 files by default. (can be disabled in Library Options)
