Title: Help Installing - Media Center Just Disappears

Hi there,

I need a litttle help - I have used Media Center 9 without any problems until now.

I want to upgrade to MC 10 so downloaded the upgrade - any time I run the mediacenter10.exe the program starts I get the little window where its loading the install and the little blocks fill up then it just stops dead.  It doesn;t crash or hang - just stops and the process ends - task manager says there is nothing running.

I tried mediacenter9139.exe and it does the same thing.

I turned off my zonealarm firewall - no help there - same problem.

I uninstalled media center 9 and tried reinstalling mediacenter9139.exe from scratch -- all the same situation - the program starts to install and just stops and exits with no error message but no software installed.

Any suggestions please?

Did you use IE to download it? Do you have any download managers on?

I used both ie AND firefox - downloaded the file to different locations and they all follow the same pattern.

That worked.  :D

Just removed spywareguard and spyware blaster and it installs just fine....

I wonder why one of those is stopping the installation?

Maybe one of the activex/dlls built into MC is the same as a particular piece os spyware?

Maybe the people who write these programs aren't getting it right.

Microsoft found problems also with installing SP2.  They advise uninstalling them before installing SP2.
