Title: Continuous charges for upgrades
Post by: leemex on October 24, 2004, 11:22:43 pm
I purchased MJ8 in early 2003 and the MC9 upgrade in December of 2003. I lost all my data and had to re-format. Tried to re-install MC9 but you won't permit this and yet you want me to pay for an upgrade to MC10 which I really do not need. Is this going to be a continuing greedy problem.

I'm not entirely sure that continuously improving a software program, and charging money for that qualifies as a "continuing greedy problem."  Especially when you consider the upgrade price. ;)

Did you try restoring your license?

https://rover.jriver.com/cgi-bin/restore.cgi (https://rover.jriver.com/cgi-bin/restore.cgi)

You get ten restores per year (starting from date of purchase).  If you've already used up all your restores, well, then, stop giving out MC to all your friends.  :P  j/k

Yes, I tried to restore and no I have not used up my restores and I take offense to your accusation that I give programs to my friends. Most of my friends are my age (64) and do not have interest in this type of endeavor. MC10 will not accept my restores from MJ8 or MC9. :-X

Why do you think it would? You bought MC9, not MC10.

Your accusations against JRiver are no less offensive than Justin's statement. What you're saying is akin to saying that you bought Windows 95, lost the disc, then found out that Microsoft doesn't sell Windows 95 anymore, so you tried to use your product key with Windows XP and are mad that it doesn't work.

If you search the web for a bit, you may be able to find MC9 for download somewhere. I know that JRiver doesn't sell it anymore due to some legal issues with one of their partners.

Leemex,

If I understand correctly, what you want is to install MC9, which is the license you paid for. Actually, you don't need to install MC10 if you don't want to.

MC9 is no longer sold, but you can get a copy of it here:

ftp://ftp.jriver.com/pub/downloads/music/old/MediaCenter91319.exe

Once installed, you should be able to restore your MC9 license.

Hope it helps.
