We're still working on Media Center 11. We appreciate your feedback on it, but MC11 may not work as expected and we can't yet fully support it. When upgrading from MC 10, you will lose your view schemes. Some plugins still do not work.
We recommend that you use MC10 below, but if you want to use MC 11 while we're building it, PRICES are here:

Recent Changes
11.0.113 (10/29/04)
1. Fixed: Installation could crash with an error. (also fixed in a modified 11.0.112 that was posted)
2. Fixed: 'Show Media Center' menu item had incorrect text in menus.
3. Fixed: Global search box was not working with playlists / smartlists.
4. Changed: Reenabled 'Save View' button in View Settings dialog.
5. Fixed: TiVo port setting was broken.
11.0.112 (10/27/04)
1. Fixed: Legacy WMA tag fields could take multiple tag saves to be flushed from the WMA tag.
2. Fixed: With a service installed (CD Baby, etc.), playback statistics could get updated as soon as a file was played instead of after half the file was played.
3. Fixed: Library Server playlists containing playlists may not have worked.
4. NEW: Added TiVo Server plugin to replace TiVO functionality in Media Server
5. Changed: Searches using the ~mix smartlist rule need to plaes their searches in curly braces ({}) so commas and quotes can be supported.
6. Changed: Mix smartlist keyword rule will use all songs from a search once before using the same song again.
7. Changed: Mass storage Portable Device detection is no longer based on volume labels. Tools->Options->Handhelds provides an option to configure any path as a "Portable Device".
8. Changed: Portable device options for base path and base playlist path are removed from the plugin. For WMDM devices, we will modify MC to automatically handle these paths. For non - WMDM, use Tools->Options->Handheld->Configure remote and fixed drives.
9. NEW: Moved more view settings (columns, sorting, etc.) to new view state database. Now library specific and backed up with library backups.
11.0.111 (10/26/04)
1. NEW: View state information (columns, sorting, list style, selection, etc.) is stored in the database instead of per-user. (still a work in progress)
2. Fixed: A refresh (F5, etc.) would collapse all the tree items.
3. Changed: Startup location no longer supports 'Last Location' -- instead, a root item can be choosen. (required to support newer internal architecture)
4. NEW: Added ~mix smartlist keyword for building mixes of different ratios. (example: 40% 5-stars, 30% 4-stars, 20% 3-stars (or unrated), 10% 1 or 2 stars) (see other thread for syntax)

Hello,
just stumbled over the following: obiviously since a few builds, MC does not delete temporary files anymore that result from retagging (updates after ripping and then looking for cover art i.e.). The files can be found within the same directory where the target files are located...

I'm using build 112, so I may be gone in this build, but albums doesn't seem to update in panes. Fx when I select Marvin Gaye Lion King soundtrack will show up as album ?
Question:
When I click on a smart list a info window is shown on the top containing the name of the playlist, number of files, notes and some commands. When was this added and why? Can one customize it? How is the cover art chosen?

when burning a cd get this message after 1st track is written.

The tracks burn fine with Windows Media Player.

Still getting strange issues with ripping/encoding.
Whetherr I use the MP3 encoder that comes with MC11 or an external LAME encoder (which gives the same speed results as MC10) a good proportion of the cuts still show the bitrate as 1411 not 128 which I'm trying to achieve.
This occurs about 3 in every goes - but I haven't found any pattern yet sadly.
John.

After installing this build, I lost my customized Tag Info views.
This only emphasises the need to be able to somehow save all of MC's setting in a backup file. It takes a long time to set those views up for each type of media...
Let's face it: MC has a LOT of configurations in it. There should be a way to save them for re-use. :-)

I cannot get the new Tivo plugin to work. First, I had to manually add the IP address. Second, it only appears on my Tivo for a brief instance then disappears.

JRSS 2.0 swaps rear and front channels on every other song. This problem has apparently been around a while. I recently discused this in an older thread (thread id 20879), but I'm not sure anyone that matters is paying attention to that thread, so I'm posting the problem here as something for the developers to work on in their copious spare time. :)
Symptom: When using JRSS 2.0 to create virtual surround from stereo recordings, JRSS normally puts the main stereo channels up front and creates a 'surround' matrix for the rear channels. However, under certain conditions, MC with JRSS 2.0 will swap the front and back channels on every other song. So, for example, Song 1 will have the normal stereo coming out of the front speakers and the 'surround matrix' coming out of the rear. However, on Song 2, the main stereo mix comes out of the rear speakers, and the surround matrix comes out of the front.
For a while I was thinking perhaps this was an intended 'feature'. For folks that have good quality speakers all-around, this isn't a bad feature. Its kinda cool.
However, for those who want the main focus to be the front speakers, as I do, it is a problem.
I'm using ASIO Output with a WaveTerminal 192X soundcard. Replay gain is on. Output format: 32 bits. Channels: 4 channels - JRSS 2.0. Sample Rate: Source Sample Rate. Crossfade: Aggressive: 6 seconds. Seek Smooth normal. Stop: Fadeout Normal (Stop does NOT fade out though, but that's another problem).
I tried changing lots of options to try to get rid of it. Nothing worked until . . .
I turned off the "Do not play Silence" feature. When that option is unchecked, the problem goes away. But the problem with leaving that turned off is that it seems to totally eliminate the crossfading that I want to use. So I have the choice of No crossfading but proper channels (leave "Do not play Silence" unchecked), or Crossfading, but channel swaps every song (Check "Do not play Silence").
Please fix this so I can get my crossfading back! Thanks!
PS: I haven't upgraded since 11.0.105, as that seems to be a pretty good stable build, and I don't want to take chances. I haven't seen any mention of this being fixed since then, but if it has been fixed, please let me know.

Same here... Also when adding any smartlists and or playlists the new one does not display until you close and restart the app.

Rename Files from Properties is broken in this build. The library gets updated but the files are not renamed so consequently the library gets out of sync.

marko,
Go into the drives and devices tree, locate a folder you know has a ton of documents inside...
Where is the folder, under 'My Computer' or have you mapped it as a remote drive in Tools->Options->Handheld?

Steve
I set a folder on my C drive (i.e. C:\Work-in-progress) as a Favorite.
Later, I click the location in the favorite's list, but I am dropped short at 'My Computer' rather than within 'My Computer' at the folder specified.
This is occurring to me regardless of which folder I set as a favorite, or where I am when I attempt to jump to those favorites. These are all on local drives (actually all on the same drive as MC is installed, my main drive).
It is not new to this build, and otherwise the Tree is working fine.

I use MCv11 (v11.0.113 now) to rip my CDs from one of the computers on my network. The destination is a network drive. When I rip the CDs, I manually add info to the 'Album Artist', 'Year Recorded' and 'AMG Rating' fields. The 'Album Artist' field is a standard field in Media Center. Both 'Year Recorded' and 'AMG Rating' are custom fields that I created. I use the AllMusicGuide.com to get the info for these.
I then have to go to the destination machine (where Media Server is running), and run Media Center. I usually access this machine by running Remote Desktop, because this machine is tucked away in a closet. This machine is also connected to my home audio system directly upstairs. Now I import the new tracks on the remote machine.
I am running MCv11 to do the rips because v10 does not handle the latest WMA codec that shipped with WMP10. However, I am running MCv10 on the remote machine, because I don't feel MCv11 is ready for full time use. With earlier versions of MCv11, the rips were fine and all tags were recognized on the remote machine running MCv10. The MCv10 copy also has the same custom fields - 'Year Recorded' and 'AMG Rating'. (Before running into the problem with ripping the latest WMAs with v10, I had MCv10 on both machines and it worked flawlessly, also)
I noticed that with v11.0.006, the 'Album Artist' field was not recognized by MCv10 on the remote machine. I had to add these fields manually. Now, with v11.0.113, the 'Album Artist', 'Year Recorded' and 'AMG Rating' fields are no longer recognized. These custom fields are in both libraries and use the exact same settings.
Any ideas?

Columns, sorting, etc. are now stored in the database. That's one of the major changes of the last few builds.

Does this mean I am SOL?
Will I have to update these fields manually every time I rip a CD and import into the server system?

I don't understand. What columns were visible (etc.) used to be stored in the registry on a per-user basis. Now they're stored in the library so Media Server, backups, etc. preserve them on a per-library basis.

MC 10 won't recognize extended fields written by v11. You'll need to switch to MC 11 everywhere if this is important.

Request: It would be nice if we were able to define Media Insert more precise. Fx, I'd like CDs to rip when I insert a it IF tag info is found. If no tags are found, I'd like it to pop up 'tag-yourself-window' rather than just ripping calling tracks Track 1, Track 2 etc.
I'll echo my question from my previous post.

Are you browsing to it under 'My Computer' in Drives & Devices, or is it a mapping at the same level as 'My Computer'?

rename files isn't broken... but there is a bug...
the files were read only. mc failed to move them but the dialog box appeared behind the main window so it couldn't be seen and MC did update the library even though the files were not renamed. Hope this helps...

Matt-
Just curious...
Why did earlier builds of v11 recognize the extended fields? Remember these extended fields (with the exact same parameters) exist in both v10 and v11. In fact, the 'Album Artist' field is a standard Media Center field (or is it a built-in extended field?). Why isn't 'Album Artist' recognized between v11 and v10?

We made some WMA plugin enhancements.
One was this:
Changed: WMA tagging uses "JR/" instead of "MediaJukebox:" as a prefix for custom fields.
This new system is more consistent with Microsoft's "WM/" prefixing.

Thanks, I will try this tonight. I have another question, feel free to tell me that this wasn't caused by MediaCenter but ever since I installed v11 it seems like movie files take longer to start playing. If I open an AVI file, in MC it says "Opening..." and then it pegs the CPU at 100% for a few seconds before it starts playing. These files used to play instantaneasly. WMP and Zplayer now do the same thing -- it could just be a coincidence, I may have screwed something else up -- but I was wondering if MC11 could have caused this. I have reinstalled DX and ffdshow and still have the problem.

When importing new audio-files, 113 does not show me the recently imported files automatically after import.
Same here... You could use the smartlist "Recently Imported -- imported today" to manage your newly imported files until it's back to normal.

anyway of looking at a log file when it says external changes. (i cannot tell which files were changed)
-
I use a Microsoft Internet Keyboard with Media-Buttons on top of the function keys.
If I press "Forward" MC skips one songs.
Btw. very nice additions made to MC recently - I have been away for a while.
-
Right Clicking on a tile brings up an out of memory dialog. Also any chance that these could be media mode dependent? Having a cover image for text files doesn't really work...
