I have finished the conversion of my music to aac files. I have copied my library to a new one and have changed the path and extension info to reflect the new files (m4a files).
MC will not do anything with the files until the library gets updated from the tags to properly reflect the file type info. Unfortunately, when I do this, it changes the song name to whatever the file name is, which is not the song name. It also does this for the artist field, which is often a bunch of miscellaneous characters, and totally unreadable. So everything gets jacked up.
I leave on the trip Tuesday morning. I have sold the computer. I need to get this fixed and get both ipods updated before I leave.
How do I make this stop updating song tilte info? What is the rule by which the update library updates?
Please help, I'm out of time!!!! :-[ :-[ :-[ :-[

maybe you should have used MP3

Too late for that now. :-\
I think I may have it figured out. I changed the file naming rule to [Notes], which is a field I don't use, and it seems to be just updating that, and leaving my used fields in tact.
Unfortunately, it takes about an hour to update, so we'll see how it goes.

Nope, it is still updating the name and artist fields.
Matt or Jim, please help me make this stop. I'm so close to being finished with this project that has taken weeks to get to this point, and the computer holding all the music has been sold. i have to get the hard drives removed and deliver the machine soon. I need to get this done. Once the library is correct, I can update the iPod and be done. This is the only thing holding me up.
When I originally changed MC to make the [Notes] field the filename rule, and tested a couple of files, it worked. I selected about 3000 files, and updated, and it got to about 2500 then MC just closed, no message, no warning, just closed. I reopened and tried again, and it's back to updating the name and artist again. I restarted, and selected the [People] field, and it still updating name and artist.
I'm using v.111. I'd be happy to install an older version if there's one that will be more friendly with this, but i don't have time to try them all until I find one.
Please tell me I can get this done, and how, I'm so close :-[ :-[ :-[

weard
maybe a bug, never used aac

When you convert to AAC, make sure you're getting tags in them. Otherwise, MC won't know how to fill in the artist, etc. That's why it's falling back to the filename.
It's complicated because there isn't a clean AAC standard. (format or tagging)
For now, you could export your library to MPL, edit with notepad, and build a new library from the changed MPL file..
