Title: How do I convert from .m4a
Post by: jweisler on October 30, 2004, 09:47:47 am
I am using MC 9.1.319.

How do I convert files from .m4a to mp3?  I've never had a problem converting .wav or .wma files to mp3, but .m4a seems to be unsupported.  Is there a plug-in to do this?

Thanks!

First, I don't know why you'd want to do this.  aac is a better sounding format at the same bitrate.  Also, converting from one lossless to another just loses more sound quality.

Second, if you really want to do that, try dbPowerAMP.

I just used it to convert to m4a files.  It takes a little while (about 8 straight days for 111 gb of music, in my case), but it works great.

Thank you for the info.  I'll give this a try.

The only reason that I need to convert to mp3 is b/c I use my Tivo to play all of my PC music on the stereo, and the Tivo cannot deal with AAC.

MC will autoconvert on the fly to send any supported file type to TiVo as mp3 files from the Library Server component.  I'm not sure if it will do this for m4a files however.
