Title: MC 10, W2K, and MP3

I cannot find a plugin for W2K which allows me to rip to mp3.   Am I correct in this?  I have tried downloading the default xp encoder which causes immediate crash of mc and asks that I restart.

Pick "MP3 Encoder" in Media Center > Options > Encoding.

Make sure you have the latest MC 10.  The help file should have some good pointers as well.
