Title: Media Center 11.0.123 Alpha Available
Post by: Matt on November 10, 2004, 05:10:01 pm
We're still working on Media Center 11.  We appreciate your feedback on it, but MC11 may not work as expected and we can't yet fully support it.  When upgrading from MC 10, you will lose your view schemes.  Some plugins still do not work.

We recommend that you use MC10 below, but if you want to use MC 11 while we're building it, PRICES are here:
http://yabb.jriver.com/interact/index.php?board=3;action=display;threadid=23311 (http://yabb.jriver.com/interact/index.php?board=3;action=display;threadid=23311)

If you want a more trouble-free experience, please download Media Center 10 here:
http://www.musicex.com/mediacenter/download.html

Media Center 11 is available here:
ftp://ftp.jriver.com/pub/downloads/music/MediaCenter110123.exe [see price link above]

Hmmm ... The web installer seems to be gone.  Or did it just detect my browser and give me the regular link?

Either way, thanks for the new build.  Can't wait to try out the new "Sample Rate, Channels, Bit Depth, and Compression" features!

Hi. Looking forward to the new features too.

Does this build adress the Theatre View problem raised below by any chance?

I don't recall changing any options but this build's installation has resulted in automatically getting cover art for my 30,000 tracks. I assume (or hope) that it's only getting them for the tracks that don't already have cover art associated with them.
As this needs doing, I'm not complaining about it but I thought you might want to check into it.
As I say, I can't swear that I didn't change any options in the last build but I sure don't remember doing so.

CVIII, I don't think you did.  If you are referring to the new "Downloading Images" process that happens when you run an Import, then you didn't change anything ... It is something new (or at least something different).  I think I'm sure it started with version 118.

There definately needs to be an option to disable this, because with many of my files I'm quite sure that it will never find cover art (nor do I really care to have it look and report details of all of my files to some 3rd party site without asking thank you very much).  Besides, it takes forever. (Sorry, I should have looked better.)

I just found the option.  It's in the Import Dialog.  You have to click "Advanced" (as though that option isn't always open) and it's the very bottom checkbox "Retrieve Cover Art from Internet".  (I should have known that it would be optional, but sometimes they do throw us a curveball).

Its odd that it wasn't mentioned in the changelog, but it wouldn't be the first time (and that must be hard to maintain anyway).

Just a simple note, I haven't found "Last Played" in the Smartlist "More fields" quickselector, I think it should be there with some options for days/months/year etc.

And I still believe the output when burning cd's won't be the same as listening to music with MC, even though you burn cd's with the same settings as when you listen (in my case: aggressive 4s fading and omit silent sections). A bit annoying since what sounds perfect in MC doesn't sound as good on cd, seems to me like omit silence isn't working in the same way...because I get silence, more or less, between songs and only some of them fade nicely.

This is great but MC should do "create thumbnails" instead of "get cover art" for importing images.

Install halts at the end of the first progress gauge (which feels very slow compared with 117) with:

Errors encountered while performing the operation
Look at the information window for more details

There's no "information window".

Tried to uninstall 117 and install 123, no joy.  Had to reinstall 117.

Different result most of the time.

I HAVE A SCHEME OF THIS
~dup=md5texthash,name ~sort=name,artist

I PUT THIS IN THE SEARCH BOX
~nodup=ARTIST

Works great to find misspelled Artist.  When I change the artist name and use ALT (BACK ARROW). I find more duplicates than showed up the first time.  If I go forward and back sometimes it finds more sometimes less.  (Not sure when this started).

(Maybe this is related / maybe not)

If I make changes to tags. followed by an import (it sometimes reports my last changes as external modified files)

Just curious. What app do you have that requires an ASPI layer?

Still shows status "Buffering..." when playing media files (or at least APE files).

I am using the 5.1 JRSS output in DSP studio with my Logitech Z-680 speakers via optical cable from the motherboard.  When MC plays the second track in a playlist, or any second track after stoping and restarting playback, I lose output to my right rear speaker.  As soon as I hit stop, and play, the speaker comes back.  I have tried both ASIO and DirectSound output with the same results.  My motherboard is an Abit AN7 with the nVidia Soundstorm APU.  I am using driver version 4.56.  I tried WMP10 and it only outputs to 4 speakers (no center), but it does not lose output to the right rear speaker between tracks.  I noticed this for sure happening in build 118, not sure about builds before that.

I have Adaptec's ASPI layer installed too, not sure what app installed it into my system32 directory, but the file version is 4.71.1.  The newest is 4.71.2.  Your version, 4.60, is old and not officially for Windows XP.

This build doesn't find my WAV files when using "Import Media". It will play them OK but doesn't find them.

Really strange!

Nope, that was the first reason I noticed it. The second is that while it used to be needed for some tools, I have not installed it in quite some time and nothing I use fails to work on XP SP2.

I'd remove the ASPI layer and if nothing is broken, great. If there is something you need that wants ASPI, the Nero/Ahead layer is better behaved or at least get the latest release from Adaptec's site.
