Title: Media Center 11.0.125 Alpha Available
Post by: Matt on November 11, 2004, 04:29:51 pm
We're still working on Media Center 11.  We appreciate your feedback on it, but MC11 may not work as expected and we can't yet fully support it.  When upgrading from MC 10, you will lose your view schemes.  Some plugins still do not work.

We recommend that you use MC10 below, but if you want to use MC 11 while we're building it, PRICES are here:
http://yabb.jriver.com/interact/index.php?board=3;action=display;threadid=23311 (http://yabb.jriver.com/interact/index.php?board=3;action=display;threadid=23311)

If you want a more trouble-free experience, please download Media Center 10 here:

Media Center 11 is available here:
ftp://ftp.jriver.com/pub/downloads/music/MediaCenter110125.exe [see price link above]

Different result most of the time.

I HAVE A SCHEME OF THIS
~dup=md5texthash,name ~sort=name,artist

I PUT THIS IN THE SEARCH BOX
~nodup=ARTIST

(found 20)  locate name

ALT (BACK ARROW).   found 10.

Started over found 14

started over found 11

Works great to find misspelled Artist.  When I change the artist name and use ALT (BACK ARROW). I find more duplicates than showed up the first time.  If I go forward and back sometimes it finds more sometimes less.  (Not sure when this started).

MORE INFORMATION.

if I hit f5 to refesh here are the counts.

12
14
16
8
12
10
14

more info yet

If I do the SCHEME OF THIS
~dup=md5texthash,name ~sort=name, artist the count stays correct each time I hit f5

if I only do this  ~nodup=ARTIST in the seatch box the count is correct each time I hit f5

If I do both. the count has been as low as 5 and as hight as 24

Thanks for the new MP3 encoder - been a long and difficult process for me that one.

Looking forward to playing with it but it's a bit difficult to set up a test file or two as this build - like the last one - doesn't import any new files. "0 files found" I get when there are several in the folder I point MC11 at.

Double-check the "Skip files previously deleted" (or similar) box on the Advanced part of the Import dialog.

Sirshambling,

If you are importing just few files you could select them in Windows Explorer and right-click > select Media Center > Import. I use that all the time.

I get many crashes while importing new media (ape files).

AppName: media center.exe    AppVer: 11.0.125.0    ModName: media center.exe
ModVer: 11.0.125.0    Offset: 0025aa8c

Will try one more time before reverting to .123 to see if it's version related.

Thanks.

Also,

MC is trying to download cover art of albums that I just imported. Those albums already have a "cover.jpg" file in the their folder. How can I deactivate this function?

Thanks.

Excellent work! The command line display is brilliant. It has everything I need.

Though, since the "-V n" switches are now mapped directly with the "--preset" tweaks it could have all ten "-V n" VBR options instead of "Medium", "High" and "Extreme". The "--vbr-new" switch can be used for the "Fast" option. Sometimes low bitrate VBR is needed too.

The only problem I see is how to name the quality options.

P.S.

"MP3 Encoder VBR" should be removed from the encoders list.

This is an interesting litte buggy. At first glace, it seemed as though the "auto expand/collapse" options for the tree were fixed. However, after playing with it for merely a minute, I realized that its fixed... halfway. It only works for the first click on each branch of the tree. Any subsequent clicks do not expand nor collapse the branch of the tree. It works the first click on and the first click away, anything after just stays put.
Title: Handheld Sync
Post by: GHammer on November 11, 2004, 11:05:25 pm
I have a shared folder on a laptop defined as a handheld device.
When I try to sync to it, I am shown the conversion status then when conversion is 100% I get an 'Out of memory' error.
I can read/write to the share from Windows with no problem and there is plenty of room on the laptop drive.
Title: Library Gone
Post by: GHammer on November 12, 2004, 01:02:44 am
After installing .125 and playing some music I rebooted the system.
When I run MC again, my library is corrupted.
I see ratings but no other info for any selection.
I also see the Sample Music songs that XP has listed in my library. I never add those, never add anything but MP3 and APE/APL I also ignore small files.

I cleared the library and did an import. All selections are there now.

At any rate, very strange. I can't imagine how the WMAs were added or how all the tag info from existing entries was lost.

Thanks for the suggestions guys.

"Import files" doesn't work for either my WAV or MP3 files - with or without the"exclude files previously removed from library" checked or unchecked sadly.

R/clicking them, going to Media Centre/Import does make them appear in Media Centre but without Bitrate or Duration fields populated.

Right-click importing works perfectly for me with MC 11.0.125. Maybe MC cannot read the media files correctly (no bitrate & duration usually means that). Could you try to re-import some old files? Remove them from the library (or copy to another folder) and import. Backup your library first so you can easily restore it after testing.

After MP3 encoder changes Burn CD > MP3 Disk Options are broken.

MC hangs after importing files.  Most of the audio files then appear in the library twice.

I've had something very similar using a flashdrive as a handheld.  It was a hard fault, but deleting MC and the library and then reinstalling fixed it.  Possibly a bit too drastic!

Tried a bit of testing and both old and newly created MP3 files are recognised and brought into MC11 via Tools/Import Media. All usual fields are populated. R/clicking them also gives the correct result.

But old and new WAV files aren't imported via Tools/Import Media at all and although R/clicking them brings them into MC11 bitrate and duration are both blank. WMP10 recognises the files fine and displays their length OK too.

Baffled!

On installation i lost all my View Settings back to default. It took me AGES to get it how i liked!

Is there any way of backing these settings up so if this happens again i can restore them?

Sorry.

The good news is that view settings are now stored in the database so they can be saved and restored with backups.

Thanks for the quick response....

I tried restoring a library from the previous version, but that didn't work. But are you saying doing that from now on will work?

Correct.  The new system was added in build 111:
NEW: View state information (columns, sorting, list style, selection, etc.) is stored in the database instead of per-user.

Also, remember the "Preset" menu in the Customize Current View dialog.  It may save you a few minutes.
