I'm sure this has been discussed but wasn't sure what the topic would be called so please forgive me if this is redundant.
I have some large audio files that are of full albums instead of individual songs. Can media center somehow disect these into their parts? I understand .cue files are used to accomplish this when burning to a CD. Can they be used the same way when simply saving the files to my library?
Thanks! :)

The fastest and easiest way to do this manually is with MP3Surgeon 2004 pro.
Media Center does not do it (i think).
But make sure you have the cue file for each single file rip you got...

Why do you want to split up the files ?
They are ripped with cue and a big file for a reason, most probably its a mixed or live CD.
What you need is a mp3 player that can understand CUE. MC11 does, or FB2k or winamp with cue plugin.
If its for a portable player, let it be as is. You wont be able to see the track names but you also wont hear annoying skips as the tracks change (which is the reason behind ripping as one big file).

I agree that it has often been annoying to hear songs that should transition smoothly from one to another have space in between. Up until now, I have not known how to set up MC to address that situation on some song combinations (albums) and not others.
I guess I would like the best of both worlds: the ability to play an album as an album or as a collection of single tracks.
Please educate me...

MC 11 can handle cues. So if you have the media file with cue, you see the tracks as if they were single tracks. Import the cue instead of the big file and it should work.
If youre with MC 10, then no go. In which case, you would need to click the CUE file and the right click->Send To->(configure your player either winamp or FB2K)
You won't believe the amount of asking, requesting, begging, pleading & lobbying over the yrs to finally get CUE capability into MC.

Does anyone know of an automated tool that will re-create the CUE file for you if it is lost or missing? Basically, what I am envisioning is a tool that searches the MP3/OOG/APE/FLAC/WAV/whatever for silence of n seconds, and generates a CUE file for you.
Barring that, anyone have a good resource on the format for this type of CUE file so I can recreate them manually? (I've found lots of resources for BIN/CUE files, but no good ones for Audio/CUE files formats).
Now, granted, I haven't searched far and wide ... Just saw this topic and figured I'd ask.

Actually the whole thread is good reading if you are interested about this.

You could try CueMaster. It can make CUE-files for example from freedb entries.
