NASA's X-43A Scramjet Breaks Speed Record
NASA's X-43A research vehicle screamed into the record books today, demonstrating an air-breathing engine can fly at nearly 10 times the speed of sound.

Very cool!
Even better considering how close to being cancelled this program was.
Hopefully it will continue development so that one day I can fly from Beijing to Chicago in 2 hours. Then I'd be able to enjoy a real pizza and make it back for work!

NPR reports that its now going to be mothballed as it has no purpose for NASA as eventually their space vehicles move beyond oxygen.
