When attempting to convert from wav to any other format (ape, mp3vbr, external) I am getting the "Failed to convert" error. When I convert while ripping a CD it always works fine.
Is there any way to get more details on the failure?

maybe you should update your Media Center to the current version.

When I "Check for Updates" It tells me that I have the latest version. But I updated to 10.0.173 and I still get the same error.

Where did the wav files come from?

I've tried the following conversions on more that 40 different files and they all fail in the same way:
1. flac to mp3 using external encoder (Lame). A flac plugin is installed and the files play fine in MC.
2. flac to wav using Media Jukebox WAV(PCM) Plugin.
3. ape to mp3 using external encoder (Lame). The APE Plugin is v3.99. The files play fine in MC.
3. ape to wav using Media Jukebox WAV(PCM) Plugin.. The files play fine in MC.
If I use external programs to convert the flac\ape files to wav format I still can't use MC to encode. Basically any file that I try to "convert" fails immediatly with the "Failed to convert" error.
If I rip a CD the encoding phase works fine.
So what I need to know is if there is any way to get a more detailed error than "failed to convet"?

Conversions in my 10.0.173 work perfectly from Wave & APE to Wave/APE/MP3 internal/MP3 external (LAME 3.90.3 and 3.96.1).
I don't have experiences about the FLAC plugin. I am not sure if the file format conversions are supposed to work with it. For some rare FLAC files I have got I have used dBpowerAMP for converting them to Wave or APE format.
The problem seems to be with your specific setup or conversion options.
What exactly are the options you use? (Including the location path.)
Check also the temporally files space and user rights for the folders used in the conversion process.

Note that it doesn't matter what format I try to convert to\from. Everything fails with the same usless error. If I could just get a clue to why\when it is failing!
Anyway, here are the conversion options:
Converter Options:

All disabled.
Encoding Options for external encoder:
-----------------------
EXE Path: C:\Program Files\J River\Media Center\Plugins\lame.exe
Parameters: %IN %OUT --alt-preset extreme

Temp Folder:
