Hi,
I'm using Media Center 10 build 0.173. When I try to import media into a library I consistently get a crash after importing a certain no. of tracks which seems to be around 130 each time.
I'm only importing MP3 files and if I restart MC and continue it will import another 130 odd tracks each time.
I uninstalled and reinstalled MC several times to no avail.
Specifically the error I'm getting is as follows
AppName: media jukebox.exe AppVer: 10.0.173.0 ModName: ntdll.dll
ModVer: 5.1.2600.2180 Offset: 0002ae22
My PC is an AMD Athlon 64 with 1Gb Ram, plenty of Disk Space and an ATI Radeo 9600 Gfx Card. I'm also running Windows XP SP2.
Naturally this is very frustrating and is spoiling my usage of what I consider to be one of the best applications available of any type for the PC. Seriously.
Anyway, if anyone can shed any light on why this might be happening I'd be very grateful or if anyone else has the same problem then it'd be good to find out a common cause.
Many thanks,
Matthew.

I had the exact same error today.
I suspected it was a filename/path issue, so I moved the files I suspected into a directory closer to the drive root, and it worked fine.
The files had previously worked fine - however, I had actually moved them into their directory using Explorer, and then used search and replace on the file path to point to the new location, with longer pathname.
My guess is that MC can handle long paths pointing to files, but somehow the import routine cannot.

Thanks for this.
That sounds plausible as the files are under My Music in Documents and Settings so a fair way down the path.
However if this is true then it seems a severe oversight to me since My Music is where Windows would normally store music files by default.
I'll try moving the whole lot to a different path and try again.
btw. I just tried the same thing in 11.0.133 and I get this error
AppName: media center.exe AppVer: 11.0.133.0 ModName: in_mp3.dll
ModVer: 0.0.0.0 Offset: 00006736

this is true, as a matter of fact this is not the only problem that you will run into with long file names.

Look at the log file that MC 11 generates during the import that crashes. It'll be in C:\Documents and Settings\[Username]\Application Data\J River\Media Center 11\Library\Logs.
It'll tell you the last file MC worked on before it crashed. Please email that mp3 file to matt @ jriver.com and we'll do our best to fix it next build.
Thanks.

Bump. (still hoping you could send us a file)
Thanks.

I'd really like to but I don't have a log file where you said there would be one.
I tried it again but I've rearranged my files and I can't now reproduce the problem.
Also the problem is now fixed in MC10.
If I get the problem again I'll e-mail you the details.
Thanks,
Matthew.

Only the Media Center 11.0.129 and newer create the log file during import.
Let us know if you see the problem again. Thanks.
(can anyone else reproduce a long-filename type crash or problem with MC?)

I too am experiencing a similar issue in both v10 and v11. I'm sending the offending mp3 to matt now.
Best,
Dan

I too am experiencing a complete shut down of media center when attemtping to import media. I can import around 100 files, sometimes less, it seems sort of random, and then media center will just shut down. I am useing mc10 is there something I can send you to help solve this issue ?

Try importing half your files at a time to see if you can find a file that causes the problem. We'd like to see it if you do.
Also, see if you can isolate the problem to a single type of file by importing them one at a time. MP3 first, then WMA, etc.
There are many other reasons for crashes. Please see this thread:
