After playing with the same handheld on my desktop and laptop PCs, I ended up with a large number of entries in the laptop library with a disk location of CD (or something like - it wasn't a drive ID). These files had never been ripped on the laptop, so the location info must have been transferred via the handheld. I selected Audio / Disk Location / CD and deleted them from the library.
Everything was fine until I stopped and restarted MC, when I my entire library was wiped - audio, video images and docs! Can anybody shed a light on what happened?

What version of MC?
This was in MC 11.0.129:
Fixed: Database could get corrupted by viewing a removable handheld device.

Thanks, Matt! I don't have my laptop to hand, but I'm fairly sure it was 11.0.128.

one other "Bug" is if you have a default library, and you create a library and import files for that.
the default library will have vanished
I found that bug a few months ago.
when you go to create a library and have a default library MC should ask you if you want to name the current library.
