Post by: dirkmuc on December 05, 2004, 07:17:45 pm
Hi,

can anybody tell me, whether it s possible to run the library from a linux server or from a wireless harddisk within the wireless network?

When I tried to import meda via ftp it only showed me local drives...when I searched and picked my ftp profile nothing happenend?

I hope that the ftp functionality is included. Ned a quick answer as I m about to buy a Network attached storage tomorrow.

The plan is to have all files centrally stored in one place.

Thanks in advance,

Dirk

With Linux, you'd have to mount the Linux machine as a drive on Windows.  Samba can do that.

Thanks for the quick reply.

I havn t done something with samba so far. The only thing I now are network drives within the netowrk and this works good with my network.

I mapped a ftp drive to my machine, but I can t open the files via media center so far.

How does this work with samba? Can I install Samba on any Unix Server (eg Toshiba sg25).

Thanks

Dirk

By the way: You did a darn good job with media Center. I love netremote Control via wireless ipaq!  Just about to learn how I get control of TV and DVD

Ok, just found out what Samba is....I will ask whether I can instll that on my linux server.

If it s installed how do I connect to the server via media player?  Add media??...

I just want to stream the media, not actually download it to my Laptop , but I d like to have full access to the Id Tags ..

Is this possible?

Thanks

Dirk
