We're trying some changes to the forum. Expect delays in the next hour or two.
-
It's back up. We're running new software, so please report any new problems.
-
Posts like these from system adminastrators always make me chuckle. ;D It's like when my IT guy at work sends out company e-mail stating: "The e-mail server is down." ;D
Anyway, did you guys change some of the forum's fonts? I ask because coincidentally, I rebuilt my system (added some drives, cursed Norton for his Ghost program apparently not supporting my nForce raid drivers, reinstalled all software, etc.), and so I'm not sure if the font change is from my "new" install or from you.
I like the changes, but I'm just wondering if they are my changes or yours. :)
-
You'll never know....
-
Please put the "new" icons to the left of the subject line - that way they're all vertically aligned and I can see at a glance what I haven't yet read.
-
Hey... SMF does RSS feeds, right? I've got my fingers crossed!

Add my big PLEASE to this one too!!!!

I like the change so far. It seems to be loading pages and searches a bit more quickly. Thanks for keeping us "in the loop" as it were.

Ok, one odd thing I noticed is...
YaBB SE would somehow "apply" the changes to the Forum Thread Listing when you navigated back to it using your browser's buttons, and the new version doesn't. It probably was just forcing a refresh somehow while the new one doesn't and sometimes uses the cache (maybe part of why I think it feels more responsive).
For an example, I just read a thread for the first time and clicked "back" on my browser. The old version used to update the "new" icon even when I did it this way, but the new Simple Machines system one does not. (I remember because I noticed early on that this forum did this while some don't and was impressed). This also applies to posting a new topic. The thread doesn't always jump to the top of the list the first time and you have to refresh the listing to see it "bump".
BTW: I couldn't care less about the location of the "New" icon (it was nice and symmetrical before but sometimes symetry and order are overrated). And I like some of the changes in the "posting" dialog too. [edit] I should also add that I'm impressed at how smoothly the switchover happened (so far of course). The forum still looks like the forum!! I hope it looks that way because it was smooth and not because you've been banging your head against the wall all day (I think we all know how that feels)

I can't change the text size with these new changes. I need the LARGE text as MC has caused me to go nearly blind because of the endless hours of staring at visualizations while pounding my brain with very loud rock music 'cuz I'm now too blind to find the volume control. ;D
-
Yeah, I miss the "back" button not automatically refreshing my cookies (or whatever) so that the new message I just read isn't new anymore. :(
Also, I do care about the new location of the "New" icons. Not because of symmetry, but because now I have to hunt with my mouse for the right place to click. It's a minor annoyance. <shrug>
I did just notice the new "Report to moderator" link included with each post now. Rah! :D (Poor King...)

I should be able to move the new button back to the left. Will get to it asap.

-
It's a lot faster from where I'm sitting (you don't want to know where that is...).
-
is the back button on mice going to work again?? And no - not the furry kind, although those blockbuster ads do keep popping into my head whenever I think about this!!! ;D

RSS?
http://yabb.jriver.com/interact/index.php?action=.xml;sa=news
Awesome...
Note that to get the RSS feed, the URL needs to be http://yabb.jriver.com/interact/index.php?action=.xml;sa=news;type=rss2
This defaults to just the five latest entries. Make the URL http://yabb.jriver.com/interact/index.php?action=.xml;sa=news;type=rss2;limit=50 to get the last fifty.
Thanks for this great way to "interact"!

Just go into FF's Bookmarks | Manage Bookmarks | File | New Live Bookmark.

The speed/response of the forums is still slow. But not always. Maybe it is the searching hit as Jim was guessing awhile back.
I'm sure there is swell stuff under the hood, but I see nothing new with this except it can slow to nothing at times.

Anyone know how I can add the RSS feed to my account at www.bloglines.com?(which is a great site, btw)

Your welcome... and don't feel stupid - you know what they say? "There are no stupid questions. Only stupid answers!"
