Title: Burning CD's from music on Media Server
Post by: scrappy on December 08, 2004, 01:22:45 pm
I have a dedicated PC that I use to store all of my music and photo's. It is running the Media Server app.

All of my client Media Center PC's (ver 10.173) connect to it.  I want to be able to Burn CD's from music contained on this server, but Media Center doesn't allow this.
I get a warning message stating that either a burning app is not installed or that I must have the Libray local.

Well I have Nero 6.6.0.3 installed on the client pc, so I am guessing this is a limitation of Media Server.

My questions are as follows:
1) Am I doing something wrong?
2) If this is not supported in 10.x is it supported in 11.x?
3) Most of my music is in .ape format, so if I want to burn to a CD so it is compatible with any audio cd player can it do the conversion?

Thanks!

You won't be able to burn anything on the client if it's coming from the server.

Why can't I burn a CD when all the files are contained on the server?  It doesn't seem like this should be that big of a deal to do.  It would also be a nice feature to have.

Couldn't you just temporaily copy the files that the client tags to the client machine for burning?  This would eliminate any buffer problems.

If there is no way to do this from the server than the feature becomes useless in this situation.

I really do like this product.

Really useful features I would like to see on the client side:

- CD burning

- Locally saved playlists besides the lists provided by the server. It wouldn't matter if the server tracks are changed or removed. The client could show them as missing tracks and bypass without interruption.

- Perhaps a possibility to copy files to iPod etc. I use just audio and MP3 CDs with my portable CD player and my car CD player.

These features wouldn't make any database conflicts on the server.
