Title: Files Listed in Unknown Artist\Unknown Album. How? (Image Included)
Post by: wrafter on December 16, 2004, 01:40:09 pm
Hello there.

I have a folder on the root of my music collection called Unknown Artist. In there is a folder called Unknown Album.

I didn't put it there.

Inside this folder is hundred of tunes that I'm confident I have entered full details for - band name, album title, song title etc.

The odd thing, consider it's "supposed" to be Unknown, Media Center lists them correctly in the tree structure to the right of Media Center. I find it odd therefore that the files in question are not in a folder with their band name, and album name - as most of the other tracks that I have in my collection.

I've included a screenshot which illustrates that MC knows what the band's name is, and what the song title is, but the hover/alt text illustrates that it's located with Unknown Artist \ Unknown Album.

Can anyone advise what's going wrong here?

It looks like when it was originally ripped that this info was unknown, your file name also leaves it a bit unknown.

maybe you should use the "Rename" Option and you can rename the files and move them to the place they should be according to the tags.

I think this is related to the issue I raised in the other thread regarding the YADB lookup process. If there is any problem with the YADB lookup process you endup with unknown artist/album.

I dunno folks, I always name my CDs when I rip them via the YADB thingy that pops up, and I never allow things to go through without identification.

So krazykanuck, you might be right when you say it's a YADB difficulty, cos I can't figure anything else.

The fact that Media Center has listed in correctly in the tree, for me, is evidence enough that the details were inputted correctly when CD was ripped, cos I listen to stuff that would definitely never be on YADB (I have a number of friends who make their own music, you see.).

Still confused here, alas.

I guess this does not happen all the time since i just riped a CD yesterday and all went fine.

maybe you can rip the cd again and see what happens, the mask looks like is is messed up you may want to select a default mask

You are right in that it doesn't happen all the time.
In my case I am a recent convert to MC and have been ripping my entire collection into MC. With the volume of ripping I am doing it happens often enough to be a problem.
Something in the YADB lookup process sets the information to unknown.

Is there anyway one can do to get around using the YADB submission or look-up phase; as I find it more of a hinderance than a benefit?
