Title: VERSION 10 - CAN'T RIP
Post by: johnmac on December 19, 2004, 12:00:20 pm
I recently upgraded to 10 but have been unable to rip a cd since. I know my cd writer is OK as I have copied cd's using Nero. Am I missing something?

I wonder what parts of Nero people who have problems have installed. I have the latest Nero installed and MC 11 burns here.

I've got Nero installed and I can burn, however, I do have the problem I mentioned in this post:

http://yabb.jriver.com/interact/index.php?topic=25141.0

A conflict with Nero would not be A Good Thing for MC, since Nero is a very common (and far superior to anything Roxio puts out) CD burning application.  If this is the case, I would strongly advise JRiver to fix it.  Of course, I don't know (or even think) that this is the root cause of my problem.

I have had Nero installed all along though ...

I agree that would seem to be a legit problem.
When you install Nero, what parts do you allow? I only allow the CD writing portions to be installed. Not the rest.

There were some older versions of Nero that caused problems.  Updates of Nero fixed those.  I'm not sure it's the same problem, but you might check for updates.

Nero had nothing to do with ripping

maybe it is your settings

maybe if you state what settings you have internal external encoder, etc....

and what it is and is not doing.

any error messages would be helpfull

also "help" and system info can be copied from within MC and pasted to the forum thread

I installed the Nero 6 suite that came with a Sony DVD writer and MC 10 stopped ripping CD's.  I had to do a system restore to a date prior to when I installed Nero 6 (for getting rid of subsequently loaded adware . . . kids, ya gotta love'em) and installed the lastest update to MC 10 after the system restore.  When I re-installed Nero 6 off the application CD and wrote over the previous Nero folders I expected the same problem, but no!  MC 10 is ripping fine.

Tonight I may try burning with MC 10 just to push my luck.

What I know for sure:  Nero 6 & MC 10 have a conflict.  Nero 6 stops MC 10 from ripping.

What I don't know:  Why what I did fixed the problem.

What's going to srew things up next:  Nero has released a major update (6606).

I hope people keep testing MC 10 for compatablity with Nero because MC 10 doesn't do it all!  We need Nero for writing DVD and playing DVD movies (Nero Showtime is awesome).  Sonic sucks!

Please tell Nero about this.  This is not an MC problem.

I thought it was to do with InCD (the packet writing component of Nero). InCD is like the built-in drag & drop to CDR feature in WinXP, but allegedly better.

I wouldn't know, I never install it.

But I'm pretty sure InCD was the culprit...

Try uninstalling just that bit of Nero if it's installed...

It was InCD ... once, but that was a long time ago.  The best bet would be to contact Nero.
