Title: Why does MC change files?
Post by: sapnho on January 01, 2005, 08:21:35 am
I have my APE files on a separate file server. That means I have to import the files on my local jukebox computer. Sometimes the importing does not have the cover art (which is stored in the same folder under folder.jpg) with it and I have to manually correct this by doing the "quick find in file" trick. I stopped wondering why that was at one point but do I wonder why MC needs to WRITE to the files on the server when I do this. I like to keep any file modifications to a minimum, so what is MC doing here?

(Using MC 10 latest build)

MC must be updating your file tags rather than only updating the library.  I prefer this method myself so that the cover art is attached to each individual file, but for you and others like you who don't prefer this method, the only settings I'm aware of are under Tools>> Options>> General>> Importing and Tagging>> "Save cover art inside tags when possible" and "Update tags when file info changes."

Do you have these unchecked?
