Took the laptop up to Long Beach (no, not that one - the one here on Vancouver Island, near Tofino where all the big surf is at) since there is no TV at the cabins where we stay and I need my movie and computer fix.
The sound quality of the laptop in a medium sized room is awful, so I was wondering how one would go about getting better sound - either via a dual head phone setup (if there is such a thing) or small portable speaker system (has to be light wieght). Any one have any suggestions? It's a Sony Vaio laptop, about 2 years old. Thanks Bet

You can use two sets of headphones if you add a Y cable.
Speakers would also work.
If there were an amp, you could feed the sound into it, too.

Thanks guys, will look into getting a y cable for now and speakers later. Hubby packs enough camera stuff for ten people, so it has to fit into the space that's left over!!! And here I thought that going digital would reduce the amount of stuff we take on each and every vacation!!! At least we have stopped taking all the scuba gear complete with underwater strobes (those nudabraches need the proper lighting, after all ;D). Thanks again. Bet.
PS if you come across any light weight, speakers that don't require an amp, drop me a line.

I could hardly believe how great these tiny portable speakers+amp sound, truly excellent for the size. I use it with my mp3 player but it should work with a notebook:

They have some other similar models, too, including one that is designed for notebooks:

And then I just came across this:
