Title: CD Ripping Speeds
Post by: joelava on January 05, 2005, 06:46:44 pm
Why is it that the rip speed is at best 2.0X on my machine? This is an new AMD 939 pin motherboard with a high end processor, 512MB of fast RAM and a combo drive that supports much faster rip rates. Roxio, MusicMatch, and Real Audio crush Media Center but MC does a better job of tagging so I put up with it. Even 4.0-5.0x would be OK. The others push close to 20.0x's

I'd love to guess why the speeds are low.

If you post what options you are using for ripping, it makes it easier to help though.

Yes - Rip and Encode Simultaneously

If you encode while ripping it is going to be slower. MP3 encoding is slow as a rule.

Also, are you using Secure or Normal ripping? They also make a difference.

What MC version?

Have you seen this thread: V11 slow ripping -- AKA MP3 encoding speed (http://yabb.jriver.com/interact/index.php?topic=24291.msg169456#msg169456) ?

What is the speed if you rip to uncompressed wave format without MP3 encoding? Is the rip speed about 8-10x in secure mode and 16-24x in normal mode. Something like that should be normal.
