Title: Putting m4p files on your iPod with MC - Clarification
Post by: benrad on January 07, 2005, 08:55:12 am
After reading the other threads on this subject, I understand that you need to put one (1) m4p file on your iPod using iTunes in order to transfer the license that's needed to make these files play. However, now it seems that whenever I use my iPod with iTunes and then go back to MC 11 (which is verbotten), I get an "unable to read iPod database" warning and MC crashes. Is there a standard order of procedures that I should go through in order to be happy and make this work? I was planning on trying a few different  things this weekend, but I thought I'd ask first.

Initialize iPod in MC
Copy one m4p file to iPod in iTunes
Sync in MC

Good?

Ben,

After transferring the one m4p, initialize the iPod in MC and then do not use iTunes. The licensing will be present on iPod even after the reinitialize and you will not need to resend the file (for the sake of licensing) unless you fully reformat your iPod.
