Title: Import Media Problem
Post by: Marley on October 17, 2002, 11:17:50 pm
I have used the import media function to load my Media Library, which for the most part it did.  But when I check my library against windows explorer, it only will show a few songs from the album in the library.  For example, windows explorer shows 13 files (songs) on a particular album but the library will only show 3 songs.

Has anyone had this problem and/or know how to resolve it?

Hello Marley,

Some possibilities :
- sometimes corrupted id3v2 tags in mp3 file (happened to me with a few files from the internet)
- very short files (< 5 seconds) are not imported by default (you can change this in the advanced>> setings of the import media dialogue)

Other things :
- Can you play all your 13 files in MJ with 'open media' without importing them ? If no, can you play those files using another player ?
- What's the format of your media files ? mp3 ?

let us know, we will sort it out.

I'm having a different problem, although it may be related.  I seem to have songs show up twice.  Alot of my songs also appear but wont play when accesed from work via the media server.  I've tried clearing the library on the media server and re-doing it but end up with the same result.

Any Ideas?

>This is happening with CD's I ripped previously using RealOne and not from the internet.
>They are all full length songs so not less than 5 secs.
>I was able to view and play them with the "open media..." function.  Strangely Win Media Player saw only 2 of the 13.  RealOne sees 13 of 13.
>The files are all MP3's ripped at 96kb.

Thanks for responding.

Marley,

It is strange that you can play your files with open media
and that you can't import them in MJ library ?
Seems like a realone pbm. maybe they add some weird tags in the files.
I have never used realjukebox so I can't tell more on that.

Now, if you can play your files with open media, there is something you can try:
Go to Settings/Option/General and check the box "Automatically import the files...."
This will normally import on playing your file (Open media file).

let us know.

Unfortunately, I'm a novice at this so I cannot speak to the RealOne tagging aspect.  I did check your suggestion about the "settings" and this was already checked.  I did play using the "open media" option and it didn't seem to import (ie. I still cannot see them in my library).  Ack... any thoughts?

Marley,
That's very strange and I think I'm out of ideas now.
Just bumping this thread in the hope that somebody will be more inspired.

Anybody wanting to help marley ?..

Try to look into Media Library/ File Location

Odd.  So if I look into the File Location area all the tracks are there but they are missing the tagging information.  The songs that are list above have the track information but not the one's that are missing from from above.  What's that all about?  Any idea how remedy this and get both areas in synch with track information?

Plas...you seem to be onto something.

Try checking under "Unassigned" in the library.

I have had some wierd problem ripping tracks from CD's on a remote machine (on my LAN, storing files on the server), where it stores the files okay, but loses the tag info.

I invariably find these tracks under "Unassigned" artist/album due to the missing tags.

It's a simple matter to fix the tags, and then the tracks appear where they should in the library/tree.

Hope this helps.

You are correct.  I found them under unassigned, though it's hard to know if they all are there because there are so many.  Is there an easy way to fix the tags?  It seems like it might just be easier to re-rip for the CD's that have a problem rather than re-typing all that information.  Is this a recurring problem or a one time problem when I imported all my files to MJ?

If I have a bunch of tagless or inccompletely tagged tracks under "unassigned", I then take note of which they are, and then browse under the "File Location" section of the tree.

Then it's a fairly simple matter of highlighting a whole albnums worth of tracks, and setting the Artist / Albumname / Year etc for ALL the tracks for that album, and then updating the song titles (which you know from the file name hopefully).

I hardly ever have this problem with MJ, but as I said earlier, it seems to happen frequently when I'm ripping on a second PC and storing the files across LAN to the server in my room.

I seem to be able to get around this wierdness by just saving the second PC's files locally, then copying them manually to my server, and then re-importing...

Hope this helps ya!

Marley, Good to know you found your files under MJ  :D
I did not think about the 'unassigned' stuff.
