Title: MJ on The Screen Savers (TechTV)
Post by: dremo on October 21, 2002, 07:19:59 pm: I just thought I'd alert those, who have cable/satellite and get TechTV, that the Screen Savers are going to be reviewing MP3 player jukeboxes on their show on Wednesday. It says that they will be reviewing Media Jukebox, Musicmatch, RealJukebox, and Xplay and see how they compare to one another.

The Screen Savers is an hour and a half long and starts at 6 pm (CST) and is repeated a bunch of times at night, so check the listings. I think I should add this because it sounds like this is a blatant plug for the show, but I am in no way connected to the show. I'm just a fan who watches the show very often and uses MJ everyday.

Unfortunately, they didn't touch on some of the advanced organizational features, but they did mention multimedia/TV playback options, and that MJ also supports Monkey's and OGG as well as other formats. They liked the self-explanatory toolbar buttons and mini-me mode. They also described it as a "kitchen sink" product, but that was a good thing because it does everything well.

They described MusicMatch as "entry level" and thought the interface was not the friendliest. Their main points on WMP was that you have to pay extra for MP3 encoding and that button labels aren't necessarily clear as to what they do. They hated RealOne.

Then in the same breath said that *Winamp* could be used for playback with these. This has been requested in earlier threads to be improved for 9. While most here know MJ is great for many things, visualizations are weak. And fluff draws some attention. Maybe something to think about.

Hmmm, never even touched on some its real standout features. File analyzing, converting, etc., etc. But, at least you will probably get a few hits just from it being aired on the show. I would bet there is a LARGE audience that watches.

I do think some visuals are great BUT
In 7 was a visual based on art sleeve,far far better than the BIG s--- than 'cover art spectrum' is
Magic Iris was great.

I'd like to see more work on the command line commands.

I guess I was trying to point out that it may be important to some. I don't hardly look at them anymore. I spend more time correcting tags then anything else right now.

BTW Scronch, ever hear of these guys?

Minnesota 'Biker' band. Played at Sturgis this year I think. The guitar guy is a monster player.

The sleeve one is for the parents [and me from time to time].They stay voice-less.
