Title: Gapless glitch with .ape files
Post by: JONCAT on January 31, 2005, 01:56:02 pm
Does anybody get a glitch with .apes set up for gapless playback.

I have some cd mixes that have been ripped with MC and I get a glitch as the next song cues up. It is a small electronic glitch in the music.

I am using the ASIO driver at 32bit/88 with my M-Audio Delta 44. The card buffer is set sufficiently high to allow no interference from windows apps or drive accessing. I slid the ASIO buffer over to the left making it longer (about 1.9 sec) and playback started to breakup and skip (which I though was the opposite of what should happen) and left it back over on the right at .10 and I also tried .50.

What's up with this? I have cover art stored at the end of files but actually this mix don't have cover art associated with them.

Is this a known bug. I am using MC10.00.155

Upgrade to the latest.

Also, test other output methods to see if it's ASIO specific.

Thanks.

Using 11.0.260 here.  Get the glitch here too in a number of scenarios that i have tried.

- Have tried a full album in two scenarios:

1) each track ripped to seperate .ape file
2) CD ripped as one large .ape with a bunch of generated .apl's

- I have tried ASIO, DirectSound and WaveOut.

- I have tried the "switch tracks" setting at Gapless, Cross-Fade at 0.1s and Cross-Fade at 0.2s

right at the beginning of the new track, there's just a small glitch thing.  If I'm doing other things, i will not notice, but if i am focusing on listening to music, i always notice.

i have tried all this stuff in fb2k, and i always get perfect gapless output.

anyone else experiencing this?

one more thing:

the glitch usually happens in all those scenarios, but once in a while it is okay.

Sys:
WinXP SP2
M-Audio Revo 5.1
Asus P4S800D-E Deluxe (SiS 655TX chipset)
P4 2.8 800FSB

Hmm, strange. I get perfectly gapless playback with the next audio formats: APE, APE & APL, Ogg Vorbis and MPC. Unfortunately MP3 is sometimes gapless, sometimes not. Only MP3 & CUE is always gapless.

My playback settings for gapless output are: "Switch tracks: Gapless" and "Do not play silence (leading and trailing)" enabled. All output modes work: Wave Out, Direct Sound, ASIO (Terratec driver), ASIO (ASIO4ALL v.2 driver). Buffering setting seems to have no effect on this (I have used 0.50 s). Also, all output formats in DSP Studio can be used. My soundcard: Terratec DMX 6 Fire 24/96.

This has been OK with all MC11 versions since last August when I installed it for the first time.

tried putting the buffer to 1.0s from 0.5s, but as you said, this has no effect.

i also have the "Do not play silence (leading and trailing)" enabled

strange thing is that  some tracks always exhibit this "glitch".  some of them don't.   keep thinking it might by a problem with my system, but then i remember that fb2k works fine.

Also, flac+cue is perfectly gapless.

OP, do u still have this problem?

Remember that this crops from the beginning and end of the song, so you probably want this off if you're going for CD-original gapless playback.  This may explain the hiccup you're hearing.
